That dude worked that ham over didn't he. Cool vid.
Cotton-don't know of Tim contacted you but Sheena had her first legit find a few weeks ago. I made a bad shot on an axis doe. We gave her about 3 hours and looked, but found little blood. Tim let Sheena loose, and she hit the track. Found my deer about 200 yards from impact in the dark. Deer was still alive and had to be put down. Thanks for all your help in Brady a few weeks back.

That's very cool.... Wish I would have had Trapper 2 weeks ago to find the one I lost...

Watching how the dog went really made me think about how the deer reacts after they are shot. Since I'm new to all of this I guess I had in mind that they would just run as fast as they could in a straight line to get the heck out of there... But seeing the dog weave in and out like that has made me change my thinking!!!

          Way to go Trapper!!!!!!!

Thanks for posting that, Jeff! Really cool! You know, to the casual observer like myself, it looks like Trapper's just a "happy go lucky" dog excited to be out exploring the woods and dragging his master around at random. Obviously, looks are deceiving! He was a working dog on a mission!

Here's a little insight on just how Trapper is working the trail.

A lot of his weaving is working the scent line. There was a stiff wind that will spread a strong scent line over a 10 to 15 foot wide area. If you watch Trapper he would drift to my right (wind direction) and then return to the actual line. Watch when he's moving to my left how he will put his nose down and then continue on the actual line. Basically he’s working the whole width of the line checking for a turn or a double back. Once the deer turned more into the wind Trapper takes a straighter line since then the scent path becomes narrow.

Thought yall might enjoy the video a little more watching for these things.

Kdog, it was around 200 yards. Pretty much the whole track was on video, the only parts cut were the one that would give you motion sickness.

big_smith, no I havn't heard from him but that's great!!!

We still need to get together and have a little cook out soon.
