i'll go against the grain & say it is free speech on this one...still, anyone who would do this is just asking for problems. Having so many le buddies, I cannot imagine what was going through his head to give him the bird but I certainly do not think the middle finger being tossed at another adult is harassment where you could be cited.
Now for minors, I do think there should be some repercussions 'within the school system' for doing the same thing to say a teacher or authority figure. I would be broke if I had gotten a ticket for every bird I've tossed to my old football and track buddies but those were in jest MOST of the time.

I have a lot of friends that are law enforcement. I have a lot of family that is too. Some cops just deserve it, since that's how they treat the people they are supposed to be "protecting". Unless he's had personal interaction with the cop it was a retarded thing to do, but there is nothing "christian" about locking up someone for speaking their mind. That's bordering on the kind of crap the Jihadists do. Giving a cop the finger is just as much a protected right in this country as owning a gun.Comment

This cop needs to toughen up. Some people (me included) have encountered RUDE cops and when you see one you tend to put them all in the same basket. Is that right, NO.. BUT, there's plenty out there that really do take advantage of the badge and seem to write their own rules too, that's why I'm leary around them.
My Dad was a career fireman and it's kind of the same way too. They let some of the power/glory/heroism get to them and tend to forget how us workin' stiffs should be treated especially since we're the ones paying their salaries.
I work in the oil and gas industry and if every rude comment and jesture cost someone their job we'd all be walking to work and heating the house with wood burning stoves... Toughen up people..Comment

I will preface my post by saying that I respect leo's and what they do. While I don't condone or recommend shhoting the bird at a cop...
It's not against the law to give a cop the finger. It is a waste of tax payers money for this duo of cops to track down a "malicious finger shooter" just because he got butt hurt after someone gave him the bird. It seems like they could find something better to do with their time like tracking down a meth lab, drug traficer, auto thief, rapist, murderer.....Comment

They should have charged him with reckless driving instead. After all, to drive safely, you keep your eyes on the road and both hands on the wheel, right? And I'm sure the police officer saw him swerving dangerously as the finger came out. Probably narrowly missed hitting a car and possibly causing an injury or even a fatality. Ten and two, people, ten and two!
