I know I never complained about the cost of a hunting place 30 years ago but that was because I had the keys to over 50 places and permission to hunt them all for free.. But as they started leasing them off and my key chain dwindled in population I soon found out what others were complaining about..

50 places ?...man how did you ever get them all in one deer season?

My first lease in 1986 cost me 350.00 in Lampasas
My New Bow back then was a Hoyt Rambo and it was 299.00
And everyone thought i was a Crazy College Kid for wasting all that money for a stick and string when i could have bought a Bear for 129.99 at Kmart.
Now I pay close to 4k for 2 leases and my bows avg around 900.00
Things have gone up but its all about what u are willing to sacrafice...I love to Hunt so I will always find a way to cutback and Hunt, too many people gripe about life and Money in general..U cant take it with ya so it was made to be spent..I just spend my money on Hunting

Didn't hunt them all for deer , mostly I practiced varmint control, but I was welcome to hunt them all.. You got to remember in those days it was illegal to shoot a doe in most places.. and in most places you were only allowed one buck... period..

I think it’s due to the internet where people can get on a site and vent, whine or complain about things on a daily basis.

Pre internet you didn’t have access to thousands of people, just a monthly magazine.

first lease i hunted on as a kid was 500 bucks. This year we paid 2k a gun! But i do love this sport, and as long as i can afford it, I will continue to play.

I guess you could consider it inflation on an individual basis if the person 's salary is not proportionately growing compared to the cost of hunting.

Interesting example Buff...that's a pretty big difference.

How much more are you getting for that current price? or are you?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, 30 yrs ago I was huntin around 800 acres all to myself for FREE. Now, I pay under $400 a year to hunt this one place. Consider me lucky I guess. But when I see ads or hear people tell what they are paying a year, I can't help but shake my head.
But when I tell people I spend $2000 to hunt one week in Kansas, they just G*A*S*P!!!!

I remember paying $75.00 per year to hunt a 2000 acre premium lease in central Georgia, 30 or so years ago. Never heard of a 4 wheeler, used a hand me down Remington 30-06 and stayed in an old farm house with no water or electricity as a camp. I would complain that I had to drive almost an hour to get to the lease.
Now I pay $2000. To hunt a decent 1600 acre lease, stay in a 30’ camper with A/C, microwave, hot water and flat screen TV. I drive 2 hours to my lease in a new Ford Lariat F150 and drive around my lease in a late model, Polaris ranger.
30 years ago my income was substantially less than it is now so I guess it’s all relative. Considering inflation and the cost of living increases, the percentage of my income I spend now verses then on the greatest sport in the world is still close to the same. It’s still too high!!

In the 1930's, your typical gold coin and a $20 bill would buy you a custom $20 suit. These days, that same gold coin will buy you a $1,500 custom suit and that $20 bill gets you squat. Salaries are not growing at the same rate as inflation. We are printing paper and borrowing against nothing.
