Best cell phone coverage?

AT&T, formerly Cingular, which was formerly Southwestern Bell Mobile System (remember them?) will probably have the best coverage in rural areas. They haev been around in teaxas much longer than anybody else. The coverage around San Antonio and rualral areas neer here greatly improved when they moved their corporate headquaters to town - imagine that.
The issue my be the phones. The rural areas do not have digital coverage yet so the newer phone may not work as well on the analog side.

There is a difference between some of the cheaper phones and expensive ones. I have not kept up with phones in the last year since I'm under contract. When I entered my contract, there was a difference. The free phone was only a tri band phone and did not have the ability to pick up 2 or 3 different type towers. Do your homework on the phones as well as the providers.

I switched to ATT after 22 yrs with Verizon, only reason was for coverage. Great coverage all over south tx and del rio area. If any of you condider upgrades or switch to new users, go to -Letstalk,com- and there you can sign on with any carrier and get free phones of your choice. I was amazed at the phones they offer plus they will set everything up for you with NO CHARGE....

I would definately stick with a quality brand phone. I have always tried to stick with Motorola, and still have one. Just got my son one of the new style Razr by Motorola, and it works really well too.
By the way, the oldest system is Verizon because they used to be GTE Mobilnet who was the first in the business. The two systems in the Houston area originally were GTE and Houston Cellular. GTE eventualy became Verizon (through other interim names) and Houston Cellular became Cingular/ATT. They both got started back in about 1980 or so. Before that, we had "radio phones" that went through radio repeaters. Johnson communications was the big one back then. We've come a long way since those days. My first Motorola was as big as a brief case and mounted in the trunk of my old Ford LTD when they were full sized cars (77 model). The wires ran to a hand set mounted on a pedistal in the front floorboard, and the aentena was up on the roof... don't care to go back to those days!
