    food plot in the shade

Anyone had any luck with a food polt of some kind up in the woods? I hunt in 95% pine forest and deer are always on the move looking for something to eat. corn works great, but only after it gets cold. Is there a food plot that does not need much sun that I could plant???

    thanks

This, I prefer rye grass for some reason in the woods. Guess cause it looks pretty.

Check with your local extension agent and they should be albe to give you some choices that grow well in your area that are shade tolerant. If possible, can you clear an area in the pines, it will grow much better?

Rye grass grows anywhere but its not that good for deer.

Nice buck. Love the crab claws. There are some monsters on there but they are hard to pattern

                        Please explain more!

Is it bad for them, or are there just not many nutrients in it?

Why not? high in protein, easily digestible

Sorry for the lack of info... Personal Experince. My deer will walk right by the stuff hardly ever catch em eating it.

Its usually an additive to food plot mixes and has two species: annual and perennial. Comes up very easily but from what I have seen the deer prefer the other stuff in the mix rather than the rye grass.

Yes its protein level is high and very palatable. Just been my experience with it.
