Seriosly, I shot a nice Tom a while back and we all tried some backstrap. It was bad. It ate, just not well.

I've had it quite a few times and have to say it was good each time, guess it's like any other meat, depends on how it is cared for and how it's cooked.

In a survival situation, pass me a heaping helping.

When I have other options.......I'll pass.

I thought about it when I caped my mountain lion, but didn't. I can't imagine it being very good unless it was slow cooked a LONG time, like in a crock pot...It's extremely dense meat with basically no fat content...a lot of short "strong" muscles interwoven together with tendon so it would be virtually impossible to cook and slice a large piece cross grain...

In a survival situation the mountain lion would be eating you LOL.

University of GA student wildlife society puts on a wild game dinner every year here in Georgia. They usually have coyote and on occasion bobcat on the menu. I've tried both. The coyote bites were about what you would imagine a wet dog would taste like. The bbq bobcat wasn't too bad though. I will usually try at least a bite of something I've never had before just for the heck of it.
Had a chance this January to try kangaroo jerky. Not bad tasting but very chewy. Think I will pass on all 3 of these next time I'm offered some.
Growing up we would bbq raccoon on a bbq pit and I remember it as being not bad, although usuallly fatty.
