Mountain lion is like pork. The one I killed last year was very good eating. My wife and son actually tried it before me as I was still cooking on the pit and they came out and told me how good it was. I haven't tried bobcat but I have been told it wasn't good.
I truly wonder how some of y’all would do in a survival situation…
I don’t make a habit of it for obvious reasons but I have on occasion eaten both mountain lion and bobcat; both are good white meat and taste just fine. In fact the first time I had the pleasure was at a “wild game” dinner in Denver, Colorado which was a fund raiser for the Colorado Fish & Game. Cat was only one of several of the native meats served that night and I didn’t try any that I wouldn’t eat again if the circumstance arose. By the way, eating a house cat or dog would be no different than eating a rabbit or squirrel.
I grew up up north and we always ate coon, cottontail and squirrel was a norm. So when I got down here I asked one of my buddies if they ate those here in west texas, and surprisingly 10 out of 10 people I asked said they were varmits and you don't eat varmits, so I thought that was kinda funny. So we disscused other animals like bobcat and fox and I was laughed at for even thinking of it. So we started looking online and there are a few people who have ate bobcat, yote, fox, and mountain lion. They said you do not want to eat the stuff during the summer, just during the winter but mountain lion and bobcat was said to be good while yote was said to be horrible always. Either way I am still making up my mind if I want to make this a dare to my friends....lol
Bodcats stink when you skin them, and I have skinned a few. I'm not eating meat that stinks! A mountain lion smells like a big bobcat and I left the carcass of mine on the mountain. Javi is different, it is the outside of the animal that stinks. Once skinned the meat really has no odor. While not my favorite, we did utilize the couple I shot.
