I had to laugh when I read your post. I got started in taxidermy many many years ago, by mounting a pintail. I still have that mount hanging in my office today and that was back in 1978 I think. I mounted ducks and a goose or two and even a few pheasant over the next several years and stayed away from game heads because I thought they would be the most difficult and the tanning thing really worried me. Little did I know! I still do birds and actually enjoy working with them. Pheasant are my favorite and are very easy compared to a duck. Goose on the other hand are a real pain because of all that greasy fat.
Nice job and give them another chance. You will learn tricks that will work well and save a lot of time. I use reproduction heads and that is the only way to go. Try a pheasant also. Keep up the good work.
Now maybe folks might think about why they cost so much to mount, very labor intensive.

I'm not a duck hunter , but the mount looks good. What breed of duck is that.
