My First (Maybe Last) Duck Mount

Where to even start... A buddy of mine went duck hunting this past season and gave me a Greenwing Teal to mount up for him. I told him that I've never done a duck before (nor had the passion to attempt one) but he said give it a shot and I'll pay for it anyway. Well, OK!
We tossed around some ideas on pose, habitat, etc. and came up with a duck flying out of water. So off to work I went. Well, I just finished the last bit of the habitat tonight and can say that this was by far the most difficult piece I have ever attempted. I hope that he will be pleased with the outcome as he may be the only person that has the first and last duck (or any bird for that matter) to come from me. I am truly exhausted from something so small...probably the reason why it was so much more difficult than I had imagined. Anyway, here he is.

Did several a few years back, each one took me all day....never again. Way too tedious for me. Looks good for your first bird!

Since I wouldn't tackle the project, my hats off to you. The base and bird on the water is really nice. I'm looking at 2 GWTs on the wall in my family room and the necks are not as thin as yours- but I'm not an expert and it could be natural variation.

I believe GWT are rare and BWT common in the central flyway, which is opposite the pacific flyway, maybe I'm wrong.

        I like it.

Lots of Greenwings and Bluewings in the Central Flyway. Bluewings are primarily on the coast after September but lots of Greenwings scattered all over the state.

I would say for your first that you did a heck of a job! I really like the habitat you did and I think thats one of the first ducks I have seen mounted in that pose

I don't know anything about ducks and or mounting them, but that looks pretty awesome to me! It's the first time I've seen that pose as well.
Kudos to you for being a great friend to tackle it for him!

Bill, our early teal season in September is predominantly bluewing, and the better part of our regular season is predominantly greenwing. The bluewing start showing up again in larger numbers in January, on their way back from South and Central America, which is also the best time for mountable birds since they're in full plumage. We get very few cinnamon teal. I think your cinnamon numbers are pretty solid on the West Coast.

Forgot to mention... that is a nice mount! You sure took on a difficult one for your first bird. I like it.
