get ready for high scoring games and QBs with outrageous stats. all these new bs rule changes are tying the defense's hands. it's making the NFL into something it shouldn't be. injury is part of the game and it's why they get paid so much

While I like to watch the big hits as much as anybody, I don't have a problem with a few rules to help protect the players. These guys have a lot of life after football.
And like CB said, it is well documented that some of the most paralyzing hits have taken place on kick off returns. That is far from a new subject.

same here. i do however think that the refs are a little too ready to throw the flag on some hits. yes, there is a good chance that helmets will come in contact if a linebacker is putting a good hit on a receiver. thats just part of the hit and part of the game. its frustrating to see a flag get thrown on a good hard hit when it wasn't a deliberate helmet to helmet or any other type of "targeting" hit.

here ya go this is joe paterno's idea and i think it would work, he said that if you want people to stop leading with their heads, get ride of the facemask.. he played with out one, why cant these guys play with out one...
"I've been saying for years, we should get rid of the facemask. ... It's a weapon, guys are fearless."

I don't mind a few rules to protect the players but it's starting to go a little overboard. moving the ball up 5 yards isn't going to make mcuh of a difference that I can see. It's not going to slow anyone down when the ball gets returned. It will result in more end zone kneelings. The return players stats will dwindle also. They keep trying to make this sport into something its not.... a "safe" game. If they keep changing these rules around it will eventually become boring to watch. Fans will start to turn away and then they'll be losing money....granted they're along way from this but I could see it happening in the future. If you're too afraid of getting hurt then don't play the game.

All this talk about when REAL men played the game......those little slow dudes couldn't take one freaking hit from the monsters in the NFL today.

I guess we will just have to watch and see how any rule changes effect the way the game is played and viewed by the masses. WE are the reason for them getting the big bucks right? If we don't like the product they deliver, then we don't support them by putting our hard earned money into any of it.
I have not given the NFL a dime in many, many years. How about y'all???

I would change a few rules up myself if I was in charge and that goes for all sports. You would get paid by the play, no contracts! This would give the folks who really care about the sport a chance to play not just the ones who have high paid agents. Anybody who got caught using steroids would have to pay back all of the money they made as a professional athlete.
