what is that a dry well thats bricked in?

It's an old hand-dug well. there is currently a submersible pump in it that supplies the hunting camp.

The snake didn't look much like the rat snakes I had seen. I think coachwhip may be what it is. Just above it (not in the picture) was a rattlesnake coiled up. They say that building/well is full of rattlers in the summertime. Guess I would go without a shower if the pump quit.

BTW, I had the urge to yell down in the hole, " It rubs the lotion on its skin." for some reason.
