We built the stone entry ways at the pine cove camp in Tyler last summer. I was blown away by that place, the amount of activities, the people, the acomadations(sp) all nestled in the east Texas pines, that's were I'll be sending my kids when they come of age.

Check out www.outdoortexascamp.com, there are many different types of camps available:

              Fishing
              Hunting
              River fishing
              Saltwater
              Deer
              Waterfowl
Saltwater Kayak-might even have me as a instructor
              Hunting/archery

all of them are ran by great people that know what they are doing. any of the fishing camps are good, they always get on the fish, either reds, specs, or croaker its always a good time for the kids

                  Wildlife Intensive Leadership Development

The Texas Brigades is a wildlife-focused leadership development program for high school youth (ages 13-17). There are four different camps: Bobwhite Brigade, Buckskin Brigade, Feathered Forces, and Bass Brigade. You will be introduced to habitat management, hone your communication skills, and develop a land ethic. Top wildlife professionals and resource managers serve as instructors and mentors. Each camp is 4 ½ days long.

The camps are held on private ranches and at environmental camps in different areas of the state. In addition to learning animal anatomy and behavior, botany, nutrition, habitat management, population dynamics, etc., you will learn valuable leadership skills. You will write news releases, practice public speaking, and find out how to handle radio and television interviews.

Through these activities, you will develop valuable life skills that will help you regardless of your goals.

If you are interested in biology, conservation, leadership, or just appreciate the outdoors, you should consider applying to one of these camps. Find a career, meet new friends, and become an ambassador for conservation.

Our son has gone to Camp Lone Star in La Grange for three years and loves it. Only one week at a time and not too terribly expensive. Also not too far from home either. Only thing I know is he has a blast and the staff has always seemed wonderful.
