Anybody have any experience with the Rem. MLR in .338 Lapua? I've been looking into getting one for plinking and most likely some swine eradication. These guns seem cheap and am wondering if they're as accurate as some of the others?

a .338 lapua for plinking.... now there's an interesting comment.
have you looked at ammo costs for the lapua yet?
ballistically, it's incredible. accurate to 1500 yards or more.... still carries almost 1000 ft/lbs of energy to 1600 yards.
have you looked at the ammo cost yet?
I have two friends with the lapua, and they are great guns, but I settled with a .300 win mag, as I really never see myself taking shots past 1200 yards...
amo cost is about 1/3 for the 300 win mag as the lapua.
no idea on the accuracy of that particular rifle though.

If you're looking for a hog gun or a "plinker," the lapua is about as appropriate as a 500 Nitro Express. Get a standard caliber that you can buy cheap or relatively affordable ammo for.

I'm sure the remington is a good gun. Savage is making a factory 338 lapua too. If you are going to look at at custom gun then you might want to look at building a 6.5 x 284. It'll shoot a 140gr bullet flatter to 1,000 yards than a 300 win mag without much recoil. If you are going to be plinking for fun then recoil might be a consideration. My 300 win mag shoots nice, but it weighs close to 15lbs or more. I've never shot the 338 lapua, but everyone I've talked to says you have to have a muzzle brake on it. Have fun with whatever you decide.

I myself am considering .338 Lapua as well. I have been doing some reading on the Savages and I think you should do yourself a favor take a good look at them. I feel they are the most accurate factory guns made. This round is awesome who cares if its for hogs, plinking, deer, elk, moose, cape buffalo, lion, terrorists, and so on. You get my point you should have to justify buying one to anyone on here, if you want one and can afford it then by all means drop the hammer! Have fun and show us some pics.
