      You might look at criollo. Small breed, but very hardy. Great marbling and very tender meat (best I have ever eaten, period).

      Check out http://www.leanandtenderbeef.com/about-criollo-cattle/ for info on the breed. Also there is a phone number of there you can call to look into renting or buying a bull.

                Looks like I may go with a good brangus. I want something that will finish out nice as we plan on keeping one steer a year for personal consumption. Still open to thoughts. My main wants are black, ease of calving and good finish out.

                I dont want to buy an auction bull because I dont know where he is coming from. I just dont know many breeders around me. Any leads would be appreciated.
