    Exploding arrow help!

With all the talk about exploding arrows and the damage they can cause, here is a video that could prevent this type of accident no matter how careful the archer is.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIBagPpiHa4&NR=1"]YouTube - WARNING: Misfired arrows shot in hand must view for all archeries.[/ame]

I expected to see a ridiculous price tag on this, but was surprised it's only $30. Pretty good deal if you ask me!

Does anybody actually have one of these and can give some insight as to how they affect your shooting?

Sorry I don't see this preventing an arrow from going through your hand that shatters upon release of the bow string..All I see it doing is adding some kevlar cloth to help stop the bleeding.

          From their own website.

          WARNING
Intended to reduce potential risk of injury to the back of the hand from misfired arrows. May not prevent all injuries. Cut resistant not cut proof. Puncture resistant not puncture proof. Sharp pointed or high velocity projectiles can penetrate Kevlar armor. Not liable for misuse.

The question in my mind is, "What caused the arrows to pierce the hands in the first place. It appears to me that while some appear to have exploded, some of the arrows that penetrated the hand are actually intact, as if they came off the arrow rest just before release.

I have actually witnessed one carbon arrow of an early vintage that exploded upon release. The young man was shooting an 80 pound bow and obviously used arrows that were were not spined for that high of a draw weight. He was standing beside me with his body blocking the arrow from hurting me when he fired his bow. Fortunately for him, he did not suffer a scratch.

My advice is: Flex Test every carbon arrow EACH time before you shoot. Scratched or damaged arrows will give a "cracking" sound (I may not be accurate with the sound). Throw them away.

I shoot a very low draw weight compound bow: 48 pounds. I have shot and killed deer with that draw weight and I have lots of confidence in my arrows and Rage broadheads. My range is about 20-25 yards though I have shot my deer under 18 yards. I also shoot ALUMINUM bolts in my 150 pound crossbow as I don't want to experience exploding carbon arrows at that high of a draw weight.

Good luck everyone ... stay safe.

let me shed a little light on how i see this. to me, all i see is this company selling a false sense of security. they are saying if you have our glove on you dont have to worry if your arrow break we will protect your hand, BS. the first thing is they should check your arrows for cracks and not shoot the arrow if they do. 2nd the arrow doesnt always hit your hand, it can hit the wrist like it did me, and if any one would like to see my scare i will be happy to show it to yall in person at bownanza. the only way to prevent a arrow from breaking upon release is tomake sure you are not shooting damaged arrows.

thank you, i will get off my soapbox now.

I think you can look at the glove like you would look at scentlok or scentblocker clothing. Does it work? Maybe, maybe not, but even if it works just a little bit, it may prevent more damage that would occur if you didnt have it on. If it makes one feel more confident and feel safe, then why not use it?

And, I will hop up on mine.

I like to think I give my arrows the once over after every single shot, but I must miss just a little tiny bit. No one thinks to fully flex the shaft after every single shot - and that one time is all it takes.

I was shooting a 300 shaft at 68 lbs. One would certainly think that's enough spine and it should never explode unless there was a serious problem, or a serious crack. Nope. You simply might not find the crack that will put the shaft through the back of your hand, or into your wrist by feeling it. You have to flex it.

If you flex it, and it has a weak spot, it will snap like a twig. One of mine did.

I want a forearm guard like that one Shaft_Slinger00 has. It just takes one explosion to flat out get your attention. Especially when you're at the lease and many, many miles from any medical help.

When shooting the bag I am pretty good at checking, but i rarely check my hunting arrows. I think I will start checking those a little more often.
