I like to think I give my arrows the once over after every single shot, but I must miss just a little tiny bit. No one thinks to fully flex the shaft after every single shot - and that one time is all it takes.

I was shooting a 300 shaft at 68 lbs. One would certainly think that's enough spine and it should never explode unless there was a serious problem, or a serious crack. Nope. You simply might not find the crack that will put the shaft through the back of your hand, or into your wrist by feeling it. You have to flex it.

If you flex it, and it has a weak spot, it will snap like a twig. One of mine did.

I want a forearm guard like that one Shaft_Slinger00 has. It just takes one explosion to flat out get your attention. Especially when you're at the lease and many, many miles from any medical help.
contact atombomb he just might be able to help you out.

I actually think the Kevlar is a good idea. It's light, and handy. I am not worried about the tipped arrow getting me, I am much more concerned with the exploded arrow getting me. I just found out that Shooting Edge Tech is coming out with a Kevlar sleeve to go with the glove. I will purchase both when they are available.

By the way Shaft_Slinger00, they are going to want to speak with you. Just a head's up. These guys are pretty serious about what they are doing.

Yes. I emailed them, and asked about the sleeve, and they phoned me. My phone number was at the bottom of my email and I never even thought about it. They've got lots of research behind all of this, and if they hear about an exploding shaft they want to learn what happened and what they can do to understand it better, and help. I was pretty surpised. I gave the guy this website and told him to jump in.

Can't view the video at work, but I take it these were all carbon arrows and not aluminum ones? I've heard carbon will shatter and aluminum will only bend upon impact, so I shoot mostly aluminum.

Aluminum arrows will explode, especially it they hit something hard ie the riser or shelf of the bow. I have exploded many aluminum arrows shooting 3D way back in the days so they could "explode" upon contact with the bow riser or shelf and possibly do damage to the arm or hand. Remote, but possible.
