It has angle measurements of 25 and 20 degree like the Lansky. It also has angles for scissors and serrations.

I agree with you, BearKat, on long blades. The Lansky runs out of its usefulness on any blade over about 12 inches. I have always used traditional Japanese water stones for big bladed knives, swords, machetes, etc. The Work Sharp will handle those now and Ill just do the final polish with the stones.

        Brian,
Evidently I don't have enough posts to be able to send PMs. Sling me an email to keith@howellcutlery.com and I'll answer your question. Thanks.

I tried the Work Sharp on a cheap katana blade last night and it did well. This shows it can handle big blades.

As I mentioned above, I prefer a more polished edge. I felt that there need to be some additional belts offered to get a better polish. I contacted Darex, the maker of the Work Sharp, to see if they have plans to offer any other belts sometime in the future. Here is their reply.

"Thank you for contacting Customer Service. During the product testing stage, our field testers came up with this question. After coming up with a P600 or P800, we noticed that the in between grit actually made a duller edge. If you wanted to use something of the P600 or P800, you can use a worn P220 which will act as these grits. However, the results may not reached the advertised sharpness. The way the abrasives work is to give the blade a "shaving" edge by using a thick cloth backed sharpening belt to create the primary bevel (P220 red belt) and then honing with a much more flexible 6000 grit belt to slightly micro bevel the cutting edge. The cutting edge is honed to a very sharp edge, but further up the primary bevel may show a coarser grind pattern. This does not impact or degrade the cutting edge."

Just got mine. Mine came set up for kitchen knives already and I sharpened two. They are sharp. I then attached the "Outdoor Knife" attachment and sharpened my daily carry knife, a 4" Eye Brand folder. It was already sharp but now it is sharper.

This sharpener works pretty well. You have to use a little sense to make the most of it, but I am very pleased with how fast and efficient it is. I have been using a Lansky and paper wheels for years and this is much easier and faster. The fine belt that comes with this thing can actually make a knife less sharp it seems. The best results I got was using the medium belt until it got sharp, and then stropping it on leather.

Mine should be here today! I have larger items shipped to my parent's house to avoid a trip to the post office. I plan to try it out on some of her knives when I pick it up. They will be a challenge.

I use a Warthog and love it...my cousin built his own version of the Work Sharp. It's a much bigger version and a whole lot easier to use. It is bench mounted...I was impressed with his design. I will probably buy one from him...

Lemme tell you what, this new Worksharp is the shiznit! I sharpened one knife last night with it that was absolutely dull. In about 3 minutes, I had it well past shaving sharp. Today I carried it with me in the truck and stopped by my parents for lunch. I told her to drag out all her knives that she didn't use anymore due to dullness. Some of these were dull enough to see the edge from 10' away. I opted to start with the extra coarse belt for these. There were 8 blades in total, from a paring knife, to filet knife, to butcher knife and a couple of pocket knives. I ran all of them through the coarse belt, some took 2 passes per side, some took 10. This was to get the base angle set. That took all of 5 minutes. 30 seconds to switch to the medium grit belt, and I hit all of them 5 passes per side. That was another 3-4 minutes. One last belt change to put on the polishing belt, and another 5 passes per side on all the blades. Every single one ended up shaving sharp. I'm running out of hair on my arm to test them on! Grand total time for all eight blades was easily under 15 minutes, probably closer to ten.

I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars and !
