Devil's River, Baker's Crossing to Rough Canyon Marina, will definitely go back, but no way I'd do that whole thing again

Guadalupe: I've done several multi-day trips on the Guadalupe via canoe and kayak through the years. Kayak trips are typically day trips and the canoe trips were 2-3 day trips.....covering 20-40 miles with pull out camping. During the 70s, I canoed the Lupe pretty frequently.....before the heavy tresspassing rules kicked in.

North Fork Guadalupe: Frequent this area a lot now..so shallow it's a lot of work

South Fork Guadalupe: Same as the North fork...access is slowly going away and I think in the next few years it will literally impossible to legally find a drop in.

Trinity River: Near Dayton - bottom land flat bottom catfish floats - day trips during the late 70s.

Pedernales: From the falls to just above Lake Travis

Frio: Several miles through the Concan area.

San Jaoquin River California: Dive floats through some of the deeper mountain stretches. Don dive gear....jump in and float the river underwater checking the rock formations, caves and rainbow/german brown trout

Flathead River - Glacier Park Montana: Full blown Class 3-5 float trip through some of the most breathtaking country in the world

Guys thanks for this thread. We are in the process of planning a youth campout and are planning on floating the frio for one of our days. We are going to try to stay at Garner. Any info would be awesome!!

Rileydog, my advice is to make sure you have everything that can be ruined by water in something waterproof (seems obvious, but I see people ruin things all the time.) Even if you don't flip, splashes and drips from your paddles will get things wet.

Also, tie everything together, so if you do flip, its not scattered all over the river for 300 yards by the time you get the canoe back up and going again. Also, if something doesn't float, that will save it. Every trip people lose things at some point, almost without fail. The most lost item is probably sun glasses.

My buddies and I used to climb/camp/drink on the Shumala Bend of the Pecos(Painted Canyon to Weir Dam). The Pecos is awesome, it can be gin clear or look like hot cocoa. We hit the white bass run one year by chance, you could have dove in an caught ten fish. Did you guys get out of the boat and explore?

Rileydog tie stuff to the boat! Not the boats together. And please don't tie anything to a person. One of my nieghboors tried to save a toober that had his cooler tied to his foot. It wraped around a tree, he flipped and drowned. Not a good memory for the youths. If you do flip let the boat go and hang on to your paddle. The boat will find a bank and th paddle will sink. Just use common scence and you'll be fine. Wear your pfd's at all times!

Did a 2 day canoe trip from Lake Corpus Christi dam back into Callalen one year. Had about 20 canoes in the water with a lot of boys and a few good men. Bank fished during the night and had fresh catfish for lunch on day 2.

Frio, Comal, Guadalupe, San Marcus & Blanco... The Blanco River where it runs thru Wimberley has been my favorite for family vacation lately its close to home (w/ gas prices this is the main reason) & doesnt have the crowds as most rivers do...

Oh and yakking down the Colorado River...

Of all the places I've dipped a paddle into, the upper Guadalupe has got to be the best overall. Remote, incredibly scenic, good rapids and very good fly rod fishing...hard to get any better than that. Man o man, I'm ready to go again!

Last September we took a 6 day canoe trip down the Peco's...6 day's and never saw a sole, much better than all 3 of the major canyons in Big Bend. You had better be in decent shape. There were just 2 of us, we each took our own canoe and used the beer as ballast weight for the front of the canoe! Any questions feel free to ask or PM
