After looking at your avatar I don't put much truth in your statement.

I read somewhere that the only possible way to catch leprosy from an armadillo, is to consume the un-cooked flesh.

I don't know about Leprosy, but I had something similar happen to me. I killed my first deer when I was about 13. Well, as was common, I had the blood from that young buck smeared on my face. Sure enough, shortly thereafter, I caught "The Rut". Had it ever since. I get all tempermental. My neck swells up. I don't usually pee down my leg, but I do spend a lot of time chasing. Yep, that's the only thing that I can figure caused it. It ain't bad though. I got my eye on this old doe cleaning the kitchen right now....the chase is on.

The concern of being infected from armadillos to humans did not arise until the mid-1980’s (Wilson, 1997). At first it was thought that nine-banded armadillos weren’t able to procure leprosy due to their location. Eventually, people in Texas and in Louisiana were infected with the disease, which was later discovered that it was due to the extensive handling of nine-banded armadillos – racing armadillos, extracting meat, and making souvenirs from their shells (Wilson, 1997). Today, the nine-banded armadillo has become an important animal in the study of Hansen’s disease.
