    Hunter for the Hungry Program

    Hey guys,

It is that time of year where many of us are having to take x number of does for management purposes. I was at the shooting range the other day and another hunter told me they needed to take 70 does off their lease. Said he was looking for hunters with doe tags. I don't have his information but I myself have to take does off of mine.

Just wanted to remind those of you who can help out that the Hunter for the Hungry program is available here in Texas. All you need to do is find a local processor who is participating in the program. Find one here on this link

Then drop off your deer with a nominal fee ~$30. Our processor in Katy does not charge us but that is his choice and is very nice of him.

So for those of you who need take does and already have a lot of meat remind your guest hunters that they can donate the meat if they have plenty already and it is a great help to those in need. They do not take other kinds of meat like hog etc. Only deer.

Here is the link to the Hunter for the hungry program.

Remember these types of programs buys us hunters all kinds of good will .

    Happy Holidays to all, Ranchdog

there are not very many that will take them for free anymore (and why would they) it cost them time and labor wages to have all those donated deer processed.

So true. Have a few doe tags left, but just don't have the time to get out and use them. My freezer if FULL, so I would definitely have to donate. Its a great program.

yea I went with a buddy on our way back from Junction Monday to drop off his blackbuck there. First time I have been there or seen it. Their sausage is good and they gave me a free sample of jerky and I loved it. Might have to drop some does off there.

Kudos to Mr. Myer for doing this. If you are in the area when you drop off some animals drop in for some pretty good BBQ too. Midway BBQ next door a couple of buildings. He owns them both. Help out the little man.

Just so folks know this link I posted above will let you select or click on the map of Texas counties to see who near you is a participating Processor. This happens to be for Dallas County but just click or use the dropdown to choose another county.

                        Regards, Ranchdog

Hey guys I donated a nice doe to Midway meat market here in Katy and confirmed that yeah they do not charge the small fee. Just drop off the deer and you are good to go.

It is a good way to help the hungry if you already have enough deer meat and still need to manage the deer herd too.
