    Priorities

After getting up this morning I recieved a call from my buddy telling me that the buck I had been hunting for 2 years had been killed on a nearby property. I was crushed with the news. I have hunted specific bucks before, but never to the extent I did with this one. I was in the stand every chance I had. I got into plenty of arguments with my wife about all the time I was spending hunting. I tried to explain to her everytime that I needed to be in the stand because today might be the day.

On the way to work, just down the road from my house, there was a wreck being worked involving a 18 wheeler and a small car. The car was beyond recognition. A few minutes later I recieved a text from my wife telling me that our neighbors daughter was the one in the car and that she didn't survive. Although I did not know her personaly, the news made my heart hurt for her family.

I have been doing alot of thinking today and came to the realization that my prioritys are way out of order. A deer is just a deer, there will always be another one. I have only one family, and plan on giving my wife, my daughter, and my son, much more of my time from here on out. You never know when this day could be your last.

I did not write this in order for people to pat me on the back. I just thought it may help some people step back and take a look at themselves.

Please pray for the Smith family of Rusk, Tx. I know the family will need your prayers.

everything happens for a reason - prayers sent for the Smith family and prayers sent for you and your family as well. I hope you remember this next season when another buck shows up that you WANT to hunt. You ARE correct in your thinking - they are only deer and just because it's deer season, does not exempt us from being present husbands and fathers to our wives and children. I would love to hunt as much as I did in my younger days, those days are over, and I can accept that, as I have a wonderfull wife and son that I love and enjoy spending my time with. Maybe your wife will take up hunting with you at some point and yall can enjoy chasing big bucks together! God Bless you EastTx
