WOW Whitetails really can jump a high fence

I've see deer run into both high and low fences before but until yesterday I never have see a whitetail clear an 8 ft high fence with ease.

I pulled up in my truck and this big buck was running a whitetail doe and her fawn fairly close to a high fence, I guess my arrival was more than she could take, 3 quick steps and away she goes, effortlessly clearing a 8 ft fence by a foot or more.

    It blew me away

That would be a cool picture if you could have caught her at the right moment.

I saw a huge buck on video from a helicopter taken during a survey that jumped and 8 footer. The pilot and camera guy lost track of the position relative to the fence and pushed him too hard. The buck sailed over the fence and you can hear the pilot and camera man saying under their breath "OHHH %$@# NOOO"!!!

I have heard of it never seen it. We were riding around a friends high fence place and he told us to stop. there was a doe next to the fence and she could jump it.

They are amazing creatures....I've seen one go THROUGH a high fence at mach 2 like a ball team through butcher paper on Friday night

I have seen it multiple times and once saw an entire bachelor group (3) of bucks, un-pushed, casually, flat footed, jump a high fence. I think the first one was "showing off" and the other two did it just to prove they could do it too..I have also seen does run straight through a fence and never slow down, just using their heads as "wedges" to snap the wire and make a hole. you would be amazed how small a hole a running doe can go through.

Man I wish one of my neighbors bucks would do that.

A friend of mine has a small ranch that borders a big high fence place. Saturday morning, through his binos he saw a nice 10 point with a drop tine walking back and forth on the other side of the fence with his nose in the air. About 20 minutes later the same buck appeared about 50 yards away, on his side of the high fence, trailing a hot doe. That bucks head is now at the taxidermist. So, I guess if they are motivated enough by love or fear they can clear it! (He checked to make sure - there is no hole in the fence)

Dave thank goodness it wasn't one of your big bucks!

Through, over and under...seen it all. Although the "through" deer was a 8ft fence made up of a 5' and 4' sections overlapped a foot. Probably saved the guy 10 cents a foot to build it that way.

I have seen two bucks go over 8' fences. Both were mature deer and neither jumped into our place. It can be done, hence the growing popularity of 10' fences, especially for breeding operations.

This is why I will personally castrate anyone who chases animals on our place.

When I lived near boerne as a kid, our neighbor had a 2-3 acre orchard enclosed with an 8 foot fence. The deer were always in there when the fruit was dropping. We'd watch them jump in and out with ease. Only recall having 2 issues, one was a buck that caught the corner of a post and tore open his hind leg, we had to put him down, the other was a yearling that caught her back leg right at the knee. We nursed her back to health, and she stayed around for about 3 months then just wandered off one day.
