Replacement Digital Timers for Feeder

Do you guys have any feedback on digital timers that you've tried - ie just replacement timer - not motor,etc? Is the $35 universal moultrie timer any good? Do yall know of any homebrew solutions as many folks (ie American Hunter, HCR, ON time, etc) want as much for just the digital timer as some of the entire feeder units? Any feedback yall have on this is appreciated.

I thought I had found the answer at Academy. I bought the Remington/BA Products digital replacement timer. I hooked it up to my battery, solar charger, and 12volt motor, pushed the test button and after the 10 second countdown immediatly got a SHORT (motor) message on the read out. OK. I'll get another motor. I was going to salvage a blower motor off a wrecked car, but ran out of time so I went to O'Reilly's and bought a new one for 18 bucks. Took it to the deer lease, hooked it up, pushed the button, same message. Now I'm ****** because I have a new timer and a new motor but they won't work together. I eventually hooked up a motor that ocassionally sticks and of course, it worked with the timer but will the shaft will stick periodically and leave you with a feeder that doesn't work when you need it. I'm sure the timer is a good one, but it must have a really sensitive SHORT detector. I'm not really sure why it has a short detector at all. Either it works or it doesn't. I had to use a different timer with my new motor and all is well, just frustrating. I should have bought THE TIMER like I had first decided to.

All Seasons makes a good timer, reasonably priced, have had great success with all of mine, I run 6 feeders and they are all All Season. I tried HCR but the price and thier service changed my mind very quick....

I've been using two of the moultrie like the one above for 6 or 7 years without a problem and they are still working great. Only draw back is they are hard to read in the day light. You have to put a coat or something over your head with them inside to see them, unless they fixed that problem over the years.

I have a couple of Magnum timers from Academy. One has been out for 1.5 years and the other for about 6 months. so far so good. Easy to program and install.

I know that these aren't replacement timers but they have been on my feeders for over 3 years and havent had to replace a battery one.

My moultrie timers finally gave it up, so I sent them back to the factory and they replaced them and the motor. The new timer has six settings instead of four and will also tell you what % your batter has! I like it so far!

CJ7, you might want to check but I have been running those BA/ Remington digital timers for years and have never had a single problem with them---- BUT I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ONE OF THERE DIGITAL TIMERS BEING 12 volt, all the one's that I have seen have been 6 volt

Just ordered my second Geotimer and you can set them to go off 30 minutes before sunrise every morning and 2 hours before sunset every evening. A little pricey but all I have to do is keep the feeder full and forget about the time setting. It may just be a coincidence but the feeder I put the first one on as a test run has more deer hitting it than ever before.

I agree with huntmaster.I've had several brands through the years, and I've been pleased with the service I've got from the HCR timers. They are small enough to fit in almost any timer box, and they are simple to use. We are running four of them now, and haven't had any trouble with them at all. They cost about 70.00 give or take, and have a five yr. war.

I am replacing all my various timers that crater with the HCR timers. They work great. I've never had one fail yet.

I have a HCR timer and it works well. I also got one of the remingtons... it goes both ways It will work with either a 12 volt or 6 volt. and it tells you how much battery you have left. Both work well. both are digital.

We have 9 HCR's in the field and have had very good service from them. We had a couple last year that got pulled out of the can's. (Goats we think) I took both of these by HCR in Burnet and they fixed them both at no charge, even put new batteries in them for me.
I did buy a feeder from Cabelas this year for a new feeder. It would not function at all, I took it back and exchanged it. The replacement worked but just kept running and would not shut off. That was the end of that test!
