Some of you guys really need to drink a little less coffee. He's resolved the issue and moved on 12 hours ago, yet some of you feel the need to keep hammering away at it.
Good luck on the hunt Brandon.
You do have the right to see the no return policy that they say you signed. It is filed with the 4473 and should only take them a few minutes to find it. If they cannot produce a copy with your sig. on it. You may have a chance.
I don't mean to sound harsh and do not want your daughter to miss out on a hunting opportunity, but this could have been avoided with a little more planning. I bought my son's rifle last year in August, he will hopefully kill his first deer with it this season. But that's just me I guess, I don't like waiting until the last minute to get hunting supplies.
That sounds great in theory, but my daughter has never mentioned wanting to deer hunt until now. I am also extremely busy with other things going in in my life and did not plan on hunting a single time this season. This past weekend I was informed that we had extra MLD tags, so this would allow us to take a doe or two which I didn't think would happen. There was no need for me to even bring up hunting to her if we wouldn't even be able to shoot a single thing.
I came on here and asked a pretty simple question and did receive a small number of replys that were helpful. For all the rest that feels it is your job to pass judgement, as well as telling me what I "should" have done...this issue has been solved.
Man, what a frustrating deal. I know how hard it is to having the little one being disappointed over the situation. Just another one in the book of why I hate the box stores. Look how many bow shops lately have closed down because of Academy only to havve someone behind the counter be called a technician screwing up more than they are fixing and possibly ruining the archery experience for many.

Wow...now we are blaming Academy for putting people out of business. I don't think Academy carries enough good quality product to put a good Archery shop out of business. Especially if their technicians are as bad as you say. I would think the economy has more to do with it.
I do not know any gun shop or store that you can return a firearm even if it is defective or not,Most will return it to the Manufactor for you to get repaired.
Several years ago I bought a 870 12ga at Cabellas that was defective and returned it 10 days later for a full refund.
I have not Posted here in a while but I lurk on ocassion. I did not realize so many fellow hunters had became such jerks. I dont think it is too much to ask for something he paid hard earned money for, to work. Yea I know it is a store policy and all that crap but what ever happend to customer service? And I dont see the need for all the smartass comments. This country has gone to hell in a hand basket where the consumer means nothing and it is "cool" to be sarcastic, or a smartass.
What dont you understand about that?
That sucks - sorry to hear. Let me know if you want to use treys 223 if your coming to hempstead to hunt-
I picked up a rossi 243 and it kicked like a mule I guess case of light weight. I sold it and got. 223 Treys a big boy and I wouldn't let him shoot the 243 it was twice as hard as my 25-06

JT,
Thanks for the offer, but I went ahead and bought another gun. Ended up spending a ton more money, but I figured I've got 2 kids that will use it...or at least that's how I justified it to Erica when I got home

As several others have stated already, firearms are federally regulated so some of the retailers "customer service" options are eliminated. I for one understand and agree with the no firearm return policy. I wouldn't want to buy a gun that someone else had returned after shooting someone with it.
Well NOTHING GOT SHOT WITH THIS GUN, IT DIDNT WORK!!!!! Just common sense would go along way. I sell you a broken product I'd exchange it and do the paperwork!!!
And I am not sure there is a federal law that says you can't return a gun, because I have returned a few guns over the years with no problems, so I think it is a store not wanting to do the paperwork.
If I'm wrong show me the LAW Not the store policy.
Your all taking the side of a retailer who chose to sell a product that was good enough to make a profit off of but not good enough to exchange if it was defective.
The **** thing would not perform the task it was sold to do, so give the man what he PAID for!!!!!!!!
I did a little research and called a friend with the ATF and he had never heard of such a LAW, and after a little research noone has been able to find any such LAW.
So we are back to a LAZY retailer, who is willing to do the paperwork to take your money but not willing to do the paperwork to provide customer service!
Well I guess the "lets defend Acadamy Crowd " and the "it's the Law Crowd" dont have much to say when asked to provide facts.
And one more thing, I dont see too many people legally buying a gun shooting someone with it and then taking it back to the retailer for a refund, that is just stupid to even suggest that would be a concern. Pretty sure if ya got away with the actual murder you would find a better way to dispose of the weapon. And then theres the whole paper trail thing, so try again.
Just too lazy to do the paperwork, so I am still wating on the factual reasoning for a no return policy.
I am not saying who is right or wrong here. Everybody knows Academy will take back just about anything at anytime. When it comes to firearms they will not. I don't remember anybody saying anything about a specific law! There is a liability with taking a gun back. Not only paperwork, but then they are stuck with a gun that they can not sell once it is returned from the manufacturer. All warranty is through the Manufacturer. They will gladly send it to be repaired free of shipping charges and will get it fixed. This arguement is done. He has already remedied the situation. Let it die!
While it might seem unfair, I think the problem lies with the gun has now been registered to you through their FFL and there is no way for Academy to "un-register" the gun.
