The right thing....if they have any faith in the products they sell, would be to exchange it, send the broken rifle to the manufacturer, have them fix it, and sell it as remanufactured.

Why would he not be upset....he bought a brand new broken rifle.

I don't know of ANY store that allows firearm returns.

I'm not even sure that it's legal to do so.

At the Academy in CS they have big signs up stating clearly their no return policy. It's not Academy's fault the gun wont shoot, it's the manufacturer's fault.
I think your only course of action through Academy is to let them send it in for repair.

Might want to call Rossi customer service and see what they can do for you.

It's a common policy for most large chains not to accept firearms in a return. In fact, even the local shops usually won't accept the gun back after it is in your possession and signed over to you.

I don't see this as a bad policy at all.

And how is that Academy's fault?

But, since you already have it, send it back to Rossi for a replacement and borrow someone's gun in the meantime.

I hate to say it...But buying that Rossi youth 243 / 20 gauge combo was a waste of money...I never know where that bullet is going when its fired...

It really does have a mind of its own...

Ooook, so I buy a broken tv from Wal-Mart, or anything for that matter, and the store's policy is "sucks to be you, go get it fixed and leave us alone". They sold a non-functioning rifle to a customer, how is it not their fault? Exchange it, and move on. I didn't realize that concept was so radical.

I don't understand why you have to be such a jerk, but for your information I did not know there is no return policy on guns. Like I previously stated they verbally told me that there was a no return policy on ammo, but they did not tell me about the gun. I have archery only hunted for 15 years and have only bought 2 new guns in the past and that was over 15 years ago, so I don't keep up with firearm return policies in my spare time.

By the right thing you do mean you hope that they continue to stand by their long standing, well known policy right?

I can certainly understand the frustration of having to break the news to your child, but there are several here who have offered to lend him a gun for his daughter to use.

Is it a crappy situation, YES. If you know the policy up front should you expect them to break policy just this once, just for me? NO

I absolutly understand your frustration. I would likely be more hostile than you now but that is the chance you take when you take the cheaper price of Acadamy over the service of a true gun shop. Only bought 2 guns from Acadamy and both times I had to sign the no return paper. Borrow a gun for the hunt and send the gun to be repaired.

Have you never taken a broken or non-functioning item back to a retailer for an exchange?

Whether it's radical to you or not really make no difference. No gunshop that I know of will take back a broken firearm once they sell it. Once it's sold the gunshop will generally pay for shipping from you to the manufacturer, but I can't remember any gunshop that allowed guns to be exchanged once you own it.

I honestly did not know the policy and was never told that. I am not saying that I did not sign something, because I very well may have and it is my fault for not reading it closer.

TV's are not regulated by the BATFE the last time I checked. What's so hard to grasp about that?
