Refuge employees/Wardens up there mentioned that they've seen evidence of Mountain Lions.
In the past years they've had gut piles and deer partially buried before the hunters/wardens came back to recover them.
Warden also told me that he saw a mountain lion run across the road in front of him last week, west of Godwin, before the highway.
Why would anyone think native wildlife would not live anywhere in the US?
I have seen Bobcats in my front yard in the city, deer in downtown areas, big foot in McKinney (Ok just kidding on that one) but as we move into their areas they will do the same.
One of the guys that took a doe from Goode unit Saturday morning, went back out to hunt from bringing his doe in, and the gut pile was completely covered with grass and limbs and dirt. He showed me the pic on his phone. It didn't take long for the cat to cover it.

Just saying I would not expect there are any wild mountain lions or black bears where I hunt in Robertson, Falls, or Limestone Counties...even though I'm sure they lived there at one time. However, wouldn't find it surprising if a few did inhabit deep East Texas near the Louisiana border.
Same with Grayson. Just did not think mountain lions inhabited that part of the State. Reports seem to indicate they do.
Well I have to say if I didnt see it and someone else said they did I would feel the same way but I am not a rookie hunter I have been bowhunting since 1988 and have seen a lot of animals in woods in a lot of different places.

Thought I'd bring this thread back up. Went to the H today and did some post hunt scouting. Looked back through by Seg B area (I wasn't in the right place), found some nice sign. Found the tree I needed to be in, Thanks Bro. Bill.
Checked on next years open area, lot of older rubs, jumped a big hog, several doe, and a granddaddy of a buck. Wish I had the camera out, probably wouldn't have a picture, too busy with "wow". No question legal, the only question would he fit through a doorframe.
First pic is close to where I was Seg B this year, second is next years area. Hat and my lab Jasper are for compairisions.
Never really thought about trying to hunt Hagerman. Guess I assumed there weren't any deer there from what everyone says. I might have to check it out next year.
Bama,
Every draw is a learning experience up there. You have to know in your mind what you are after and stick with it. My last two draws have had darn nice bucks the first day at an easy shot and passed. No regrets, not there for a 140. Keep trying and know exactly what you want when you go. It is a very tough hunt.
I guess it's not out of the realm of possibilites that a mountain lion was in the area but not likely. G
First time I drew the H was when big boy was taken. There was a mountain lion there then that the refuge guys said we could shoot but not keep. Only time I have drawn where a predator was allowed. I lived in Whitewright at the time and my neighbor had a picture of a mountain lion he took in the back of his property. I also have trustworthy sources that have seen one in bells along the red river. Inow hunt in tishomingo Oklahoma (30 miles north of hag) and my landowner has lost quite a few calves to a mountain lion. Spotted not only by a fellow hunter but by more than one rancher in the area. No doubt in my mind one could be hanging around in the area. Maybe a released pet, mabye not. They do have some big arse bobcats there though on H, saw one once that was more than knee high.. If you think mountain lions do not occasionally roam this way then you are mistaken.
