    Alligator in my farm pond...Question.

So...this fella has decided to take up residence in my farm pond. 8 footer. Property is near Athens in East Texas. Not exactly sure how he got there, as the pond is not creek fed. The nearest creek to the pond is probably 1/2 mile away. Didn't know they would cover such ground.

Anyway, my question is this. We have lots of kiddos down there all the time fishing, playing, etc. Dad called the game warden and he said that if the gator was a nuisance, we could kill it. I have no problem with that, but the last thing I want to do is get in trouble for having a gator strung up in a tree. Anyone have any experience with this? I suppose I could get someone to come trap it. Not sure what the proper course of action is...

My thoughts are it aint illegal if you dont get caught. Just kidding. I think you can kill it but not legally do anything after that with the hide, meat, but put it in the bone pile. We found a little 3 foot gator in our several years back. It is over a mile to our pond from coletto creek. Think they just keep going till they find some water. He may deciede to move on his own. Ours did. Never seen him again after we caught him and took pics and rereleased him.

The Game Warden gave you his blessing and your not following his professional advice because ....

Seeing how we have kiddos around the edge of that water all the time, nuisance season may be Saturday...

Do you have dogs? Dogs are their favorite meal. He may move on his own but I'd keep a close eye on my children and dogs.
