Do deer like peanut butter?

I had an old man tell me he use to take a jar of peanut butter and cut the bottom off of it then take the lid off and screw it to a tree and then srew the jar back on to the lid so it was mounted to the tree with the bottom out of it. Swears he killed many deer with their nose burried in a jar of peanut butter but I've never heard any body else say it so thought I would ask.

Yup, I have seen that a ton. Deer go crazy about 30 mins after you hang it.

Me too! If it does work though, I don't know that I would go to all the trouble of cutting the bottom out and mounting the top to a tree ... just open the jar and use a stick to rub it on a tree. Might be worth a shot, a jar of Jiffy sure is cheaper than all the other bagged powder stuff

Yes, my grandfather did the same thing. It does bring in deer, and squirrels, and coon, and possums, and ants ........... I relate it to the acorn rage screw in thingy.

It works, once they find it. Impressive that they clean the jar spotless, long tongues I guess. I have not caught one in it though, but you can tell it is tongue swipes in the peanut butter.

I do this every year...
I use 2 screws in the lid so it doesnt spin and only cut 1/2 the bottom out so they have to work at it some. A big jar only last about 2 weeks and its licked clean! Yes it works VERY well...

When the deer smell somthin that was not there yesterday they will be blowin and runnin away...dont try this on the weekend you are goin to hunt...been there done that....you will be out there the next day tryin to cover up the p.b. smell.......just sayin.
