Me too and I have had both. More than 1 of both. I have been around alot of pits and only didn't trust 1. Been around alot of mutts and didn't trust several. It's not the breed its the owner.
But I think you did do the right thing, if you don't know the dog presume unsafe until otherwise proven wrong. Much better than the other way around. Also seems like you handled the hunter well. so job well done.

Ahh, the ignorance. Kenforu you did the right thing. To you pit haters, I cannot change your opinions on the breed but I will say be prepared to be arrested and face felony animal cruelty charges if you shoot a dog on site. I pray your eyes/minds will some day be opened.

I will face the music, if the pit bull is on my property. Can you prove that the dog was not threatening my livestock, my dogs, or myself? It would be a long day in court for someone to prove that I did not have a reasonable cause to shoot a pit, running loose, ON MY OWN PROPERTY. Can you prove that I did not feel my daughter's life was in danger, due to a loose pit bull running around? Good luck!!!

Felony animal cruelty charges huh. I pray that someone would try to charge me with that, after I killed an animal. Hell, who is to say that the dog would ever be found. You can take it to the bank. If a pit is RUNNING LOOSE, ON MY PROPERTY, I will shoot it, without even thinking twice. They were bred to kill. It might be how they are raised, but it is already in their blood.

Again, until it happens to you, where a loved one of yours is attacked or threatened by a soft, lovable pit bull, then dont say **** to me about hating that breed of dog. It only takes one, and after that, it is too late.

If I was in town, the 870 with 00 buck would have seen some action, or the Ruger Super Blackhawk would have had it first action of the season.

Pits are dangerous. I dont want to hear about all the "its how it is raised" BS. Until you have one come after one of your loved ones, then dont say **** to me about pits and how they are raised. It only takes one time for one to go crazy. They were bred to kill. PURE AND SIMPLE!

I pray the day that a pit comes back on my property. Mr. Remmy will be ringing out once again.

Now, all you pit lovers jump on me. Here it comes. Doesn't bother me to say it. I am just saying what everyone else is thinking.
Good thing they don't arrest people for ignorance.

I would have confronted the man for trespassing on my land for sure. I may have also talked with my neighbor who asked the guy to come catch the hogs.

What about the other breeds bred to kill? Will you know what kind to look for so you can shoot them too?

I have not had any other dogs personally attack someone that I love and chase them down the street. How many times do you hear of other breeds attacking young children and older people? Not one that I can recall. How many of those attacks are attributed to pit bulls? A HELL OF A LOT. How many other breeds were bred to kill? Are you talking out of your ***, or do you have some research to back up your claim?

Again, if I see a pit on MY PROPERTY, BOOM!!!

Call me ignorant, for saying I will shoot a dog. WOW! Doesn't bother me. When it happens to you, then come say something to me. When your soft, kind pit bull attacks you or your kids, come say something to me. I bet you are the type of person that would not put down a pit bull if it attacked another human being. You would probably say it is not the dogs fault, well, you raised it, so whose fault is it. It is all in how they are raised, right!

He handled the situation better than me.

Again, my property, my word against the dogs, my choice how to handle it.

Why does any thread that ever mentions a pit bull turn in to a pit bull trashing session? That's not what the thread is about.

Back on track...Kenforu...that dude could've given you a fake name and number. I would've called the local law enforcement and had them deal with it. And to boot, I would've kept track of the guy until the LEO got there.
