They were driving a white truck and this was relayed to the office for llano county. Never thought to look at the side of the truck as we pulled up behind them. We did follow them the rest of the way through our section of the county road and I think they got the message as they sped up their survey until they got to the neighbors fence/cattle guard.

and what the heck would you giving them a business card have to do with them showing you their credentials? Sounds like they had a fast thinker in the group that knew what to say and that most likely none of yall would have a business card on you.

There is no way they were TPWD biologists. (Well, ok maybe the tiniest chance) Those guys are so by the book, it's almost impossible.
The oldest guy of the three in the bed stood up and introduced himself as a state biologist but refused to give a business card unless we gave him one of ours. We told the dispatcher the name he gave us.

Either way they were in the wrong, they do not have the right to shoot off a county road onto private property.

My friend is a state biologist and was told from the get go that if he violatated any fish and game laws he would be immediately terminated.

If you own the land you should know about any survey.

And like others have said state employees would not be shooting anything on personal property.

Did you get the plate #. If it was state it would say exempt. Live and learn. You be ready next time.

hey I've got this ocean front property I will sell you cheap.. high fence.. 190-200 class 9 year old deer, some antelope and a rhino with a sinus infection.
I'll even throw in a coyote for your biologist to practice counting deer on.

State biologists do their spotlight counts from their official state vehicles, which has the big round TP&WD emblem on both sides.

they wanted your business card so that when they got caught they would know who turned them in and could come retaliate.

                                ^^^ Exactly!

It's not a "law" but it's common courtesy to give the local GW a call and let them know that you plan on doing some spotlighting for varmints. A biologist will also make that call to forewarn the GW if some other land owner sees the spotlighting going on and calls in.

A biologist will NOT shoot a coyote during a game survey. It will spook any and all deer around. Most likely they won't even have a sidearm with them, much less a rifle. If in fact they were who they say they were, why would they be doing a survey opening weekend of bow season?

Shooting a firearm from a vehicle on a county road = law broken

hook..... line.... and sinker.... right in the corner of the mouth!

IF you see them again, don't confront them. They know that they've been confronted on that property before. Call the local GW immediately and report them.
