    Run in with state biologist

Saturday night we were sitting at our camphouse smoking cigars and having a few drinks when three shots rang out from the county road directly in front of the house. The county road cuts our place in half and we have the land on both sides for about 3/4 of a mile stretch. We hopped on the 4 wheelers and out there to find a truck with three people in the back with spot lights. When asked what the heck they were doing they said they were counting deer for the county and saw a coyote.

I am all for predator control but having guys think they can shoot from a vehicle on a county road onto private property is a bit much. When asked for identification they refused unless we gave them a business card which none of us had on us. They ended up just driving off but the game warden office llano county was called and they are checking into it.

Still iritated both by their actions and lack of professionalism.

I would say the same. It's illegal to shoot from a county road much less onto someone's property. Too bad you didn't get the license plate

State officials should be in their gov. trucks with the logo on the side.

          I'm dubious of their story.

You would think that a professional would show a little more respect for someones property...seeing how he is out in the middle of the night shooting at a "yote". If he didn't produce a body I would be inclined to think he was poaching and lying about who he was. Plus, I think the state people know the risk of doing something that could be considered reckless around a group of rednecks (I put myself in that group) with guns...they may not see another sunrise.

yep poachers. a biologist is not gonna shoot at a coyote during a spotlight count. if the deer scatter when the shots are filed then they cant count them.

What makes you say they were biologists?? Did they tell you that???

There is no way they were TPWD biologists. (Well, ok maybe the tiniest chance) Those guys are so by the book, it's almost impossible.

Thats because they were lying. What were they dressed like? What kind of vehicle? What they were doing was unlawful and unsafe and would cost any state/county official their job.
