Your best bet is to get to know Javelin. He's the man around Lufkin. I know there are a few guys on here who would agree with me on this. He is good as gold. If he says a restaraunt is good, he is most likely right. He is a little weak on his boat brands though, don't ask him about boats. If his handle was Ranger then he might have been able to help you out there.
Oh yeah, dont listen to Jaspermac......he doesn't know anything but don't tell him that.....we like to let him believe that he does.

Lol, Javelin seems like a good ole boy by his posts. I was curious if his screen name had anything to do with what kind of boat he has. I guess I can forgive him for that though. Thanks for everyone's help.

Petes place between Lufkin and Huntington has the BEST catfish all you can eat on Sunday (homeade tarter sauce is to die for) and for just an everyday lunch you cannot beat deans meat market in Huntington. Chicken Fried steak has to be cotton patch. chinese food is Chens on timberland
You nailed this one! Dean's has by far, the best steak in town!

The Thompson Pharmacy Cafe is also a great lunch spot!

The Airport is a hidden treasure. Better get there early to get a seat and your food in time!

I would also reccomend the 'Campfire Poboy' at Bryan's Smokehouse. Chopped brisket and sausage on a poboy... mmmmmmmmm, mmm!

El Taurino on 69N is pretty good, try their 'Pollo Loco.' It's chicken, peppers and cheese wrapped in bacon. My wife is a big fan of avacados and she likes to get the Tortugas. It's two avacado halves that are deep fried and covering a pile of fajita meat and also have melted cheese drizzling down to seal the deal!

If you're at the Chevron, by the post office on Old Union, try their frito pie or taco salad.

Memorial Hospital's cafeteria has (or used too, been a while since I've been there) a good hamburger.

The Burger Stop on 69N is also pretty good for a hole in the wall... or maybe a pot hole in the road. They have a good menu and good sweet tea. You get a big cup for $1! I like their club sandwich. It's really good.

Is the Stump still open in Jasper? I ate a good steak there one night and enjoyed some live music.

If you feel like driving to Wells on Friday night, there's a place called De Leon's on the left, just past town. All you can eat catfish and homemade pies!

If you go to Nac, take the West loop to the Smokehouse. You can't go wrong with anything there! Or Delacroix's on North Street, if you're feeling some Cajun grub.

Good luck in pleasing your tastebuds and welcome to the area!

Campfire Poboy is great and was out at the Stump weekend before last.

For burgers I like Thrall's outside of Nac on 21E, they have the pit fired up on Satudays. Check out Clear Springs in Nac and then can go over to Banita Creek and take a look at the scenary. Shameless plug, but could go try out The Beach in Lufkin. Best steak for the area would be to make a trip to Rosenthal on the A&M campus, pick up a few of their cuts and throw it on your own grill.

Man, that Memorial Hospital post brings back memories!! My mom retired from there and used to be the dietitian there. We always ate there and yes the double meat cheeseburgers were absolutely the best burgers ever been put together! That was at the old hospital campus, but same "company". I'm glad to hear that some things haven't changed.

Well thanks for the good word Shane, even though I dont know if it is all deserved. The ole Jav may not be the prettiest thing on the water, but the only thing that matters it that it gets there and the person on the front deck putting the fish in the boat and Ill challenge anyone on any day in that department LOL
