Update on Chippewa Snake Boot Altering

A lot of people have been asking me about an update on me looking to alter a pair of Chippewa Snake Boots. I have always wanted a pair of Chippewa's, but they would never fit my large calves. I contacted Chippewa and they do not have an option right now for this as their boots come in standard sizes. I have been wanting to alter a pair for awhile, but just have not gotten around to it.
With the hunting season approaching I started to get serious about getting this done. I bought a pair of boots at the Justin Outlet Store in Fort Worth (717 West Vickery Boulevard) for $99.99. This is the best price I could find by 60-$80 bucks.

I then took them to Ponder Boot Company located in the Stockyards in Fort Worth. The boot maker measured the top of my calf and then took another measurement where it started to taper down. I was unsure why he was doing this as I was just anticipating cutting out a gap all the way and making it wider, but I just kept my mouth shut and trusted him.

I dropped them off on Friday and I picked up them today. All I can say is WOW. I am very impressed with the craftsmanship and how they look and feel. They are tapered to fit my leg and I could not be more happy with them. They charged me $30 to make this altercation on two boots. Below are some pictures.

Thanks for the update Heath....that is great news....I am assuming they fit as good as they look?

If you don't mind me asking what did they measure your calves at?

          Nice job!!
Is the work they did going to stop a rattler? From what I know most snake bites are toward the front or side so should be good to go either way.

My calves measure 20" at the widest point. I bought a size 11 E boot which comes with a 18 3/4" top. I believe they added an inch and a half. This is going to allow me to wear pants down on the inside of them or I can cinch them up with the strap on the side.

Well it is thick leather, so it should be some sort of protection there. Of course it is better than the usual flip flops I am wearing in the woods.

They added 1.5" to the 20"?

Mine are 20" as well so looks like they will work

I think he means they added 1.5 to the 18 3/4 that the boots were originally....which they would now be 20 1/4.

You should butcher those calves or sell them at the stock yard. You could make some good $$$$. But really - they did a great job!
