I would have been more thoughtful to my parents. Asked questions about our history, but most of all I wish that I would have hugged my father and told him that I loved him instead of just shaking his hand and saying, see ya later. We knew that he was dying but I though that there was more time. I didn't make the same mistake with Mom.

I read this whole thread and i noticed something. Everyone would change something that others on here got "right". For instance, lots of people mentioned that they would have finished college. I finished college. I don't believe i am any more content than the next guy. I still have a persistent "if only" perspective on life.
I wish i had started my walk with Christ long before I did. I'm young. It's not like i wasted a lot of time but i feel that i could have grown so much more by now.

I have often thought about this and there is really only one thing that I regret. I started college with the intent of being a Wildlife Biologist, as I have a huge passion for all things outdoors and a serious love for fishing and hunting. I got through my first year classes and then joined the military. It took me a while to get back to school and when I did I switched majors to a double major of Sociology/Criminal Justice Why did I switch? The hours would not interfere with my military career.
I regreted that decision as soon as I made it, but I do not regret serving my country. Maybe I could have delayed my entry into the service, but then I would not be where I am now with 18 years in. I have always wondered what could have been though, if I had persued my dream from the get go. I might be working the King ranch or something like rubbing elbows with Dr. Deer and Mr. Whitetail. Oh well, as soon as I purchase my ranch I will be content.
You mention Hunting & Fishing as being an absolute passion of yours....as it is with many here as well. You are one step ahead of everyone and your retirement/medical coverage will allow you to dive into an Outdoor profession if you really want to. Many have degrees they never use....working in fields that are 180 out of their early college education days.
You can start guiding easily...fish or hunt....knowing you have some income from retirement with the most important item.....cheap medical coverage.
In the next few years I plan on getting my 6 Passenger/Charter captain license just in case I get a wild hair and decide inshore fishing guide work is where I need to be. I have years of seatime and only need 90 days, recent 3 years, leading up to the exam. This will be a perfect excuse to fish hard over those 90 days working up a spring/summer/fall fishing strat that works for guiding clients (Rockport - Baffin Bay). Fishing - guide clients from March - September and then.....maybe....shift gears and guide hunters on some HUGE south Texas ranch (King or others)...who ever will take me. I do technology for a living....great money and good times for the most part but.....it's always great to have a semi-retirement job strat that puts you afield with nature. That's my plan to get out there full-time…..and I do believe as I inch closer to 60......I will be out there guiding clients, snapping photos and doing what I want in the great outdoors. I could do this now but.......I'm making some great coin working technology now and I haven't gotten so sick of it that I need an immediate change. I’m headed this way though….best work I can think of for a late 50 fella that served his country.
Good luck
SEMPER PARATUS!
