    Making a varmint *******?

The varmint ******* thread has got the D.I.Y. wheels in my head turning. I like the idea (in theory) of doing away with the varmint cage for maximum corn chunkage. The smallest solar fence charger I’ve seen for sale is a 3 mile which would certainly knock the whiz out of a coon but it seems like overkill . Is there a solar fence charger - maybe used for small gardens - with less oomph and would be cheaper? Also would installing one be as simple as running a few passes of wire to block the spinner (on insulators) and pounding in a ground stake? Anything I’m missing?

Should be all you need Ground and a hot. Been thinking doing of that myself.

American Hunter feeders makes a varmint buster zapper. It is just a capacitor 6 volt input. It ramps up and discharges on touch.

Has anyone used this Havahart charger?? How long does the 2 D cell batteries last. Can you hook up an external battery source maybe off a solar charger. I know you can buy a solar fence charger but most of those start at $175 plus one of them drops to very low pulse at night to conserver energy since they assume you are using it for horses or cows.

I want to rig up a fence charger. I am tired of the cage and I don't want to go the spintech route just yet.

Anyone found any other type charger and do they last long on battery power. The one like the American Hunter for example. I will not hook it to my feeder battery, I want to have a seperate battery for it.

I got one already instaled on a digital American Hunter50 lb hangon feeder. It was 39.99 at Dicks Sporting Goods at the store in Austin. I havent been able to find a photocell for that price.

Here's the solar charger from Harbor Freight. $50 http://www.harborfreight.com/solar-fencer-47454.html

That ought to work. No need for a ground post if your feeder legs will conduct electricity. Wrap the ground wire around each leg. It should be well-grounded that way, and anything hanging onto the legs will be well-grounded too. Might even put a little moat around each leg so the little corn bandits have to get wet feet before climbing the legs. Set your trailcam to take videos.

I think I'm gonna get one of these for my feeder.

The harbor Freight one looks pretty good. A few reviews said it crapped out but that is what I was looking for.

Anyone else come up with the electric setup. How is it working? Battery life?

                    Thanks, Ranchdog.

so i wonder how it work for a crank up feeder as far as a ground wire and rod and cranking it up and down

I used one from T S . It was good for 3 miles and had a solar charger . I love the over kill . Ran wire inside and outside of legs about 5.5 feet hi . No more coons havent had any problems now for about 13 months I would have bought a cheaper one but just couldnt find one at the time . The 13 months with out any trouble from the coon bandits was well worth the money

i went ahead and ordered one. gonna have to test it out on myself and the kiddos to see if it will work . hopefully my 9yo doesnt remember 5-6 years ago when i set one up for our dogs and she accidently touched that one.
