    TPWD draw hunts

Received the public lands draw booklet today and just scimmed through it but wow there are alot less hunt dates offered this year. Maybe not all but the areas I usually put in went from 3 or 4 to just 1. (Pan handle must have been hit hard this past year)

Crap I was hoping to see mine in the mail. Hopefully tomorrow. I hope the areas I go for still have the same amount of dates.

They are probably cutting back on staff at these places, so they cant offer as many hunts.

If you got your APH last season they will send you one. If not you can go to their website and request one

                Got mine yesterday

                They have a new category
CDE Crossbow Deer Either sex - crossbows are the only legal means
All hunts in this category run concurrent with archery hunts on the same WMAs and parks, they are part of a research project to compare harvest efficiency and use of crossbows
Areas this research is being conducted on includes
Big Lake Bottom, Chaparral, Gus Engeling, Granger, Old Sabine Bottom, Richland Creek and Nannie Stringfellow
First year to run archery hunt on OSBWMA, hope that does not mean it will not be open as in years past for walk up hunts

Also saw they were offering Scimitar Oryx hunt drawing, wonder if that will be dropped with the recent legislation that has been passed reguarding the hunting of them and addax

Have to figure out which hunts I am going to apply for

Don't usually get mine this soon, maybe it will be here in a few days. Usually, I get mine closer to the middle of July.

So the book is out but nothing is published on-line yet? Strange, I usually get a "sneak peek" at the hunts on line before I get my booklet.

Got mine today. Working from home on a conference call and my wife waved it in front of me. Shortened the conference call. I don't ever remember getting the book this early.

Read the book this morning. I did not like how they put in bold print $9 if you apply online* Then in tiny print *$5 charge added to online orders...

They need to save that crap for the con men..door to door salesmen Etc. We do not need that crap.

Also, it appears (and has probably been this way for a long time) that you can not sell a hunt if you win one. One of the big game hunts that are $10 per entry that is. Why would they not let you sell it?

The whole thing seems more like playing the Texas lotto these days.

I would imagine that they don't allow selling or transferring hunts so that people can't take advantage of the system. One could get numerous non-hunting friends to apply to increase their odds of winning.

Chances suck, but I will continue to apply and eventually get a sweet hunt somewhere new that I have never been.

They probably dont allow you to transfer the permit because thousands of non-hunters will place a 10.00 bet(application fee) on the Texas Grand Slam hunt knowing if they win they can sell the permit on Ebay for $25,000 or whatever. Pretty good risk/reward ratio.

I hate it that most of the hunts are during the week and not on a weekend! Not only would I have to take off work but I'd have to find babysitter during the work week! Just can't do it so this year my options are limited.
