Ronnie.....the more I watch the 10pt, the more I think he could be 6+.
He has a lot of loose skin on his brisket and jaw. If you pause the video when he has his head up, you can see that he does not have a 4 or 5yr old's head.
I'd like to retract my first judgement and say that I wouldn't be surprised if he was over the hill.
Hes not but 4.5 he just has a big body seen him after the rut if he puts on any trash may wait another year to take him
huh... we'll I just hope he gets a bigger rack this year!
I'll let you know his age from teeth this year
My guess is he will be 5.5 or 6.5.... no older. I think he is just one of the "bigger bodied" deer that we have. The loose skin may be associated with post rut weight lost....
We'll just have to wait and see. Thanks for the comments Peyton... I know you have looked at many mature bucks!
NO Jankins ur not shooting that buck & youre definitly not guideing this year we cant have anymore fires @ the ranch

His hocks have a lot of staining for a 4.5. Good luck aging by teeth. I see a lot of deer on my ranch that I know are two years older than the teeth age. If you are feeding lots of protein aging by teeth wear is not very accurate.

This is what I was getting at. Nothing at all says 4.5 to me.

Staining of the hocks your kiddin right that would not be a very accurate way to judge the age of any deer! Teeth wear is by far more accurate than useing the hocks protein, minerals in the dirt, type of vegetattion, amount of water that is available all are factors of teeth wear but teeth wear is still the #1 way to judge a deers age. We are not in a high fence but I can assure you I know these deer

Cementum Annili is the only way to confirm their age.
Great stuff Ronnie.. keep it comming.. I would like to see a video or pic of that setup.. I imagine it is very well brushed in.. or did it have a lot of time on the spot?
That may be true but lets face it its impossiable to do either methods when he is on the hoof, so if theres any doubt of his age let him walk and you wont be disappointed , they cant become mature if you take him before his prime. In most cases bucks will still improve thier head gear from 5.5 to 6.5, also in MX mother nature has its on way of culling such as drought & predators, HEY Jankey the mama cat w/ 2 kittens already had Ridge buck for dinner
