    Snake Boots or Snake Gators

I got on a lease south of Laredo and I was wondering what brand of snake boots people wear while hunting in snake country. I have a pair of Danners and was also looking at Tiemans snake gators. Anyone use them? If not what boots do you wear and what are most comfortable?

I always carry a couple of pair of the Rattlers brand kevlar snake gaiters in my truck. They fit anyone and are easy to put on/off.

I'm using the 16" Redhead Ultra "snake sneakers" from Bass Pro Shops...regular retail $99, got 'em on sale for $79. Uninsulated, waterproof, and only 3.5 lbs per pair is just the ticket for this Tejas heat and stickery brush, & slogging through muddy bottomlands. I've yet to have Mr. No-Shoulders gnaw on my shin just yet to see how protective they are...almost disappointed, lol...maybe I should start stickin' my leg down a hole every here and again just to see what happens...

Same here. I keep mine, my wife's, and my 7yo son's in the truck at all times.

Not to hijack, but are my fire boots snakeproof? I would think so but how do you test them?

See I told you we should go with the boot types.

The brush isnt even that thick we dont need the chaps. Plus the boots look way cool. O and its a good thing you got that dog too because otherwise you would be buying snake proof gloves for reaching in bushes after those quail.

I will have too try on some Chips and Justins. The gators sounded good for the ease of puttin on and off just not sure about walking and hunting in them.

I see that I am a little late on this thread, but in my experience, and it is small as I only bought on pair of chippewa snake boots, the slip-on's were harder to get on then the lace up brand that I have now. I am stocky in my legs though so others might do just fine. The terrain where I hunt is also pretty rugged muley country, so I prefer the stability and support of a lace up boot as well as the fact that the soles are usually a little more aggressive. I ended up buying the Danner Pronghorn Snake Boot and will buy another pair when I need to. I also use TurtleSkin Snake Chaps and they are worth their weight in gold (although they are very light). They are comfy and almost unnoticable. They may be noisier than what you want though fo hunting. I use them more for scouting and shed hunting.

Anyways, if I can figure it out, here is a link to the site where I learned about both the boots and the gaiters: www.SnakeProofGear.com
