    Where do the bucks go?

I hunt a place in Denton county that totals around 360ac every summer the bucks and some of the does dissapear. They always come back in the fall but I cant understand why they leave. I have tried free choice feed of every kind, food plots, put out minerals, have water and no pressure. I have looked all over the surrounding country and I cant find anything that they dont have on my place. I see bucks on surrounding places throughout the summer they just are not on mine. Does anyone else have this happen, and what else should I try? I guess I cant complain because they are there when it matters but would be nice to get some velvet pics.

They go to east texas to my deer lease, eat all my corn, use up all my batteries on my trail came then back to Denton to your lease.

That does seem a bit strange. You would think if they have everything they need and are left alone they would hang out there more.

Yeah it blows my mind. I live on a small place with hardly any cover but a small draw that runs behind my property. I have a feeder I can see off my back porch and have deer that use it year round, bucks and does. It kinda gets frustrating to put all the work in over there and the bucks are not getting anything from it during bone growth.

i dont know the answer but at least they come back. i suppose, with exception of them getting hit by a car, you get the good side of things... you dont need to feed year round and waste money seeing as they are not there.

Does your place have suffecient cover? That would be the only other factor that you didnt list I can think of

Feed.....the deer will always go to natural feed when it is available...they find something else to eat that to them is better than the goodies you are offering.....plus with the summer heat most deer will travel and move during the cooler times of the day, (which is the time we don't move around much) night time....

Do you have a camera up? They may be there and you may not be seeing them. Like others have said, they do move around alot during different seasons. Try putting up some cameras and I bet you will see they are still around.

from Feb-June it seems I hardly see any deer also, they just stay in the back woods and eat natural browse.

I think it boils down to the fact that right now they dont have to move much, plenty of forage, lots of water close by, to hot to move during the day, all these facts add up to not many deer sightings, just be happy they show up when you need them to.

Greener pastures - literally. Somewhere they're finding mo' betta' food.

I would guess that the deer don't go anywhere. They just are not hungry and get 100% of their diet from browse without moving around much. The bucks are all in groups and the does are all off by themselves having their babies in the thickest cover they can find.
They will be hitting your feeder by late august when everything green is cooked.

Yeah I have plenty of cover and currently have four cameras goin, a couple on feeders and others on major trails that I get pics on all fall. Do the bucks require better nutrition this time of year than the does do? I mean the does are nursing and raising fawns right now so it seems they would need just as much as the bucks but I still have a ton of does I get pics of regularly. I kept cameras out all summer last year and had the same problem, I only got a few bucks on cam all summer and the ones I did were yearlings. Things change around September I will start getting some bucks on cam and it gets good the closer it gets to rut and through the rest of the winter. Just seems strange to me.
