Hog vitals are not where they are on deer.

I hope that it is ok to post a link to another site, but here is a good link.

To answer your. Question "Yes" a head shot if made will pretty much drop them.

I've personally found what I call the "blender shot" to be the best combo. Before you judge me please understand I'm shooting an almost 800 gr arrow - Alaskan Grizzly Stick, 200 gr Phantom with 50 gr Brass inserts. The "Blender Shot" is basically a quartering toward shot right smack dab into the thick shoulder crap! It stops the arrow just deep enough for either the hog to DRT or if he/she/it attempts to run off the broad head rips the internal organs to shreds. I would never attempt this with a smaller thinner speed arrow but its had great results for me.

It requires a low shot. The advice on quartering away is the the very best shot you can make and it will do them in pretty quickly. I've shot them broadside, low, right behind the elbow crease and never recovered them. Quartering away & low>>>watch them fall within 20 yards.

As many pigs as you have shot and not seen a shield ? Lol Ok feel like I am being baited up on that . Killed my 84th hog with a bow Monday night .

Lots of guys loose hogs on a regular basis . I myself have lost at least 9 in the past 20 plus years of hunting them . I hear it all the time " I hit him good but hardly any blood " ! Let me start out on saying you can kill a hog with any decent broad head if you get it into the pumper station . I have killed them with Muzzy , Thunderheads , Wasp , Steel force , Magnus , Zwickeys, and the list goes on..... blah , blah , blah . I shoot this and I do that we hear it on this forum all the time . Cracks me up how a bunch of grown men can fight about a broadheads , arrow, or bow company like little girls .

Ok my personal recommendation for large hogs is as follows . I like any good cut on contact head Magnus , Zwickey , Snuffers , Wensel Woodsman , ect . I prefer an arrow at least 500 plus grains . I have put weight tubes and got arrows over 700 grains . That is overkill and you arrow trajectory looks like a rainbow . You don't need to shoot 325fps to hit a hog at 20 yards or less . Some guys on hear have shot through big hogs with light fast setups but not many . Traditional guys shoot heavy arrows and get real good penetration even shooting under 240 fps . Look at Buff ?

Ok I also realize many here don't have long draw lengths . Doesn't matter . If you shoot a moderate heavy shaft with a cut on contact head you should get sufficient penetration . I shoot a 340 Axis FMJ tipped with a Zwickey 5/16 four blade . I file sharpen them for maximum blood trails . I shot a small boar last year with my Drenalin . The KE was somewhere around 70 pounds . The hog was a small on less than 180 pounds and I only managed to get through his chest and the head was stopped just inside the shield on opposite side .

I watched the Pigman put a Rage 2 blade through a shield . He was shooting an 80 pound bow with 100 pounds of KE . The arrow went in his chest cavity and didn't exit . Let me ask you older guys out there this . How many guys ( I just hit 44 Monday ) are going to pull 80 pounds or going to have 100 pounds of KE on their hunting setup ? Come on now ?

Oh I very commonly get nasty blood trails as well . I'm going to start taking pics for all the non believers . Stay tuned nasty blood trails will soon follow this post .

See my avatar. That was shot broadside and the pig went another 70 yards. Blood trail was hard to follow for the first 20 yards.

He ran less than 50 yards and fell over in sight.

Saying all of that to say, I have also had great success with shooting them in the middle of the neck which is usually a pretty big target. If you hit low, you will most likely cut the carotid a., if you hit high, it is a lost hog.
nice pig Tat! where was that one taken?

I agree that the best shot is low, quartering away and aiming for the opposite shoulder . But if i don't think i can pull it off with the bow, i ain't to proud to put it down and tap them in the head with the Glock 10mm. But that's just me.
