You can tell some things by observing the top rows of teeth. I don't have a chart or anything, but on a mature deer, the fourth and fifth teeth from the front will look worn.

Of course, if all the teeth look like little boy parts to you, you've got more things to worry about than the deer's age.

There's a good chance the lower jaw had them too.

            JP,

I still have the lower jaws, If I can figure out which ones belong to his skull. Probably 4 or 5 sets in my bugs still.

Hey, 'bruni, that's the most innovative way I've ever seen of getting to show off your deer again. Nice buck, by the way. I've sent a couple of your pics to a guy "in the know." Looking forward to hearing from him.

Too much protein in our Texas deer herds.

I have seen it once. I also read something similar to the link above before and they say a small percentage of whitetails have canine teeth.

I would say it is rare but, not unheard of.

Looks really cool on the skull mount though! You can come up with some cool self defense stories now!!!

                        Ricky T,

Please let me know what he thinks.

Will, let's see if we can put the whole jaw together and see what it looks like.

Thanks for the input everyone. I have a VERY unique plaque design planned out fo this mount.

Qzilla, he was charging for my neck when I shot him, guess that makes more sense now.

I believe there is a South American deer that has K-9 teeth that come out of the top jaw and extend past the bottom jaw. I can't remember the name of the deer, but it actually looks kind of like the fangs on a sabertooth tiger, except that the teeth in question are more straight down and not curved.

I did a little looking and found out the name of the deer that I was talking about. It is called a Chilean huemul and seems endangered in it's natural habitat. You can go to this site http://www.arkive.org/species/GES/ma...elus_bisulcus/
and find out more info on the deer. on the right hand side of the page, you will see a pic of a deer with the above mentioned k-9 teeth.

Is your deer corn harvested near a nuclear facility?

Hope you were using a silver plated broadhead or the evil spirit will haunt you!
