Not just taking the breeders word for it, make them prove it. Request pictures, not just one, two or more years worth, enough to justify a proven track record. Also ask for references of both puppy buyers AND tracking clients.

The Lacy has become a novelty breed (which may or may not be part of your reason for wanting one) and you wouldn't believe how many people throw any two unrelated dogs together, their only objective being a litter of registered blue pups.

That's not to say that you cant get a good tracking dog (or what ever discipline) out of two pets. You simply have better odds with a puppy whose parents are both proven to express your desired traits.

      True that!!!

Old Shep on here tracks with a Lacy, might want to get with him too. Cant say it enough. If you want a tracking dog then get one from dogs that track. Not just one or two tracks a year but a dog that TRACKS. Not saying that you have to find 100 deer a year to be a tracking dog, just that the odds are in your favor if the parents are proven producers and excel at what you are looking for. I dont even own a lacy anymore but it the same no matter what breed you are looking at.

Patience is a virtue. Do your homework, find someone who has dogs that do what you want yours to do and live the way you want yours to live, and then wait for them to have pups (like I am).

If I have a pup whom I am relatively certain will meet or exceed the expectation set by Trapper and Banjo, could we change that?

Ill just give it to Scarlett. Then you will have to give it a chance

                    Steve,
Might be able to......... I am a dog over right now. Got two a few weeks ago. Went for one, came home with two. Culling out two in the next month of so. Scarlett has a dog, Amanda needs one. Told her if she keeps shooting deer like she is then her dog will have to be a tracking dog, hahahaha.

***** forgot who told me but- If you are lokking for an above avg dog then the first question you should ask is " How many pups are you keeping". Just something to think about. People who own an raise(breed) working dogs are always tring to improve their line(of dogs). Someone who is just out to make a buck or give people the "joy" of owning a dog is just paring dogs together for the fun of it.

You of all people should know that I don't give dogs to blood trackers. Year round hog dog, or no dog. I don't think that the last breeding took but start your cull list. With one on the ground and looking good, I have a couple more uncle/niece double-ups planned for Trappers bloodline. And I will be strategically placing the male pups so that I can pick the best and bring them back to the best half sister. Planning 3 generations in advance

this is just my opinion, but that sounds like a line for disaster to me.

Just remember when you breed for a specific trait - you lose another trait. Blue Lacys were bred to be all around dogs and my male is exactly that. He works cows, trails blood, retrieves birds, and plays hard. And sometimes all of that on the same day.

This is just my opinion but you should educate yourself on breeding performance animals then. A jack of all trades is a master of none...... And that is really the difference between the best in class and a pet, isn't it?

Breeding a performance breed with no direct objective in mind other than a litter of registered blue pups and a bundle of green in your pocket sounds like a puppy mill to me

And, anyone who says that the Lacy breed was developed as an all round dog obviously can't read or think for themselves. They were bred of the express purpose of open range hog punching. (note, the Lacy Brothers had a purpose and all you have to do is read historic literature for yourself to prove it)

Not sure what your roomate is wanting the Lacy for (pet, hogs, blood trailing, traplines, etc.) but I'm waiting on one from a breeder with dogs that meet the criteria I'm looking for and there is a possibility he'll have some that are not spoken for. They should be born in a couple weeks. If you're interested, pm me and I'll give you his contact information.

I have one of Sandy's pups and he is a fantastic dog!! Got his UBT certification at one day shy of 4 months old!!! He is well behaved healthy and a blood tracking fool!! I'd get another one of her pups in a second
