I have eaten at Outback a lot over the years and I love the ribeye there. I have had two tough steaks there, but they were quick to replace it and make amends. I think it is very good for what you pay.

I can understand the "everyone has a bad day or it was a new cook" deal but that doesn't make me feel any better about the manager trying to convince me that a sirloin in a fillet.

I'll admit that Outback has definately gone down some over the last few years.
They used to have grilled center cut pork chops that were great. They also used to have the Drover's Platter which was a grilled chicken breast and half rack of baby backs. Both of these entrees used to be around 10 bucks. Neither are on the menu anymore.
However, I can't say the Saltgrass or Roadhouse are any better. I've seen similar drops in quality at both of these places as well.
I don't really think any of these places are bad, you just get what you pay for. If you want a prime cut steak, its gonna cost more that $15.

I rarely go out for Steak, prefer to cook it myself.
On special occasion I go to the Taste of Texas at I-10 and the Beltway. If you're anywhere in the Houston area it's worth the trip.
It’s a very good steak with a meat counter to pick out your own cut, wine room and TEXAS HISTORY all over the walls.
