    Joey,

Like you said on the phone the other day the best way to keep crossbows from entering archery season would be to get them their own season. like the end of january with muzzleloaders as well.

I thought you were gonna email me the other day???

I forwarded it to your yahoo mail account a couple of days ago, Travis.

I actually re-typed most of Von's proposal as I was reading it last night, Joey. I'll send it to you this evening if you're interested.

Travis, I think it could our best defense to be able to say that there's already 3 months where the crossbow is legal. But extending that time period makes sense to increase hunter days anyway. E-mail on the way now...

Please do Devin...I have considered running it in the magazine sometime. Von's a hoot, you should talk with him sometime...as long as your cell plan has lots of minutes and free long distance!

I don't want to re-open the debates by any means but preserving the Archery Season as it is will continue to encourage (or force) hunters to try bowhunting for that first time if for no other reason than to get the early start. Losing that incentive to try "Hunting the Hard Way" (also a great book by Howard Hill) is what many fear would be detrimental to the future of bowhunting.

It's not about the integrity or purity of bowhunting...that would be elitist. It's about preserving the challenge for future generations so that it's not lost or diminished over time.

Believe me, about half way through typing it, it was clearl he was a talker. LOL!

I jotted down a few notes while reading his proposal:

Interesting how he was trying to point out how insignificant an extended bow season would be on the TX deer herd..... today, given the continued growth of the TX deer herd, the opposite would be more attractive to TPWD.

We need to show that a primitive season will increase hunting opportunity and hunter numbers. IMO this contradicts with the "challenge of archery" argument. Obtaining facts and figures showing that archery and other primitive means of hunting are growing faster than gun hunting numbers would be good to include.

Another point: given urban sprawl and the ever shrinking size of Texas ranches, limited range primitive weapons are actually becoming more acceptable and in many instance the only reasonable means of hunting.

Along these same lines, given the cost of today’s hunting leases, the average number of acres/hunter on leases has to be decreasing. Limited range weapons are also much more desirable and safer in these instances as well.

The catch 22 in this will be that many of the reasons used to request a primitive late season will contradict the reasoning for keeping an “Archery Only” season exclusive of other primitive weapons.

Want me to post Von's proposal here, Joey?

PM me another email address if you want to, Travis.

              Only if your writing it!

Want me to post Von's proposal here?
              I see no reason not to, it's history...Texas Bowhunting History 101, 1976.

              I gotta pick Jadyn up...I'll check-in later.

If they strictly want more numbers increase the doe days to ENTIRE season!

Two week limit does NOT work! A processor can tell you this. Two week doe days during the peak of the rut? Give me a break, what ....... (insert here)'s idea was this? The last two weeks of the season would be better than the first two but why not anytime?

Can someone give me a logical answer, crossbow aside?

do yall realize we've made it on to page two of a crossbow thread and no one has gotten mad yet. Wow that 12 step program is really working.
