I’ve listened to the committee hearing several times and still don’t know.
CLICK HERE and slide the slider to minute 44:40. That’s where they begin the vote on the crossbow bill. The vote is 5 ayes & 3 no’s. Because the committee is made up of 11 members and a majority must vote for passing (6 ayes), evidently it fails. However, the vote was for it to be “passed and printed” instead of the like the other bills being brought up as “favorably reported” to the Senate.
I’m not sure what the difference is, but after the other bills they say the bill “failed to pass”. However, after the crossbow bill all that is heard is “lets take it up next meeting” like it’s not a done deal instead of the “bill failed” as heard after the previous 5 aye 3 no vote. Only politicians could make it this complicated.
Maybe we can get some clarification tomorrow.
Hopefully on this thread we can simply discuss the process and status of the bill. Maybe that's not too "illogical".
One person does state (softly), "Fails to recieve enough votes to pass".
Followed by a Senator who voted "aye" saying, "maybe we'll take it up again next meeting" (45:23).
They can still call for another vote and some will be trying to gain the additional vote needed to pass this by swaying one of the present "no" voters or by getting another "aye" from the members who were not present.
It ain't over until they leave Austin but right now it stands at a "failed to pass" status according to the Committee Clerk.

politics are just to confusing. how do you take a vote if not everyone is there? Go government. I am playing nice.
I just talked with Senator Estes' office and they said that this last Saturday was a committee deadline and if the bill did not get a favorible recommendation by then it was done.
So, barring something unforseen, it looks like it won't pass and it's a done deal.
so in the political process does if it failed in committee does it go back to the house since it was approved by the house for changes or is it just over with?
okay just got off the phone w/ my mom (one of senator heger's policy analyst) they were in committee meetings on Saturday and most likely it will go back on the docket for the committee for another vote (if i understood her correctly) if not it will go back to the house for changes then comeback within two weeks and then the bill will be reviewed in the senate again.
BTW. I just called the hotline and the committee still has the bill at a pending status.
okay now i just got off the phone with the clerk at the Natural Resources Committee and he tells me the bill died in committee. so i have no clue. getting mixed responses.
