      Re: Make a free throw!!!!!

I was knocked out from allergy meds and missed most of the game. B was definitely disappointed though. Hope my Aggies don't choke.

        Ummmm...Gonna have to disagree.

The Big 12 had the #1 overall seed, a #2 seed in K State, a #3 seed in Baylor, a #5 seed in a good aTm team, a bad Texas team, and a fairly decent Missou team, and a decent OK ST team. That's 7 teams in the tourney, the only conference with more is the Big East and they went 1-3 yesterday. I have all the Big 12 teams winning today, the Big 12 could possibly be 6-1 after today, I wouldn't say that is too shabby or "terrible." Maybe they'll prove me wrong as the tourney goes along, but 7 teams IN the tournament doesn't not equal weak or terrible.

....or they played in a weak SEC......that's why they play the games....we will see. Didn't they struggle in the SEC tourny against a crappy team that is not even in the tourny? While WVU rolled through the Big East(which doesn't look quite as impressive now after yesterday)?

tough loss for the Horns... but it was just how their whole season went after being #1. lots of criticism of Barnes here (and prolly well deserved - soooo much talent) but you have to know he worked tooth and nail to turn it around.

that said, I delighted in their loss. the Wake guy walks under the basket and they have a chance to win in regulation and don't. then they are up 8 in OT and can't close? that's Choke City right there.

the big loser yesterday was the Big Least. Gtown, Marquette, ND all go down and Nova nearly joined them.

How can you say the big 12 is weak this year? sec... yes, acc... yes, but big 12... no!! I am a previous player and watch ALOT of college basketball, not saying that necessarily gives me an upper hand but this is the NCAA tournament; every team is at stake to be upset. Texas' problem was they didnt have a coach that made his team play as a team and didnt have a glue guy that brought his players together. James is a great player but he whines alot and has shown a lack of leadership. Every player on that team thinks they should get 20 a night and it shows when they just jack stuff up. Then you look at the other teams; Kansas, KState, A&M, Baylor, Oklahoma State, and Missouri. Kansas needs no explanation other than they are experienced and have every piece of the puzzle. Even their young guys accept their roles and the team is clicking they just have a tough bracket. KState surprises me every week because even though they have some good talent, they arent just loaded with NBA players but they do a good job of putting teams away when they get the chance. A&M also surprises me because after losing Elonu to the draft and Roland to broken leg, they are still playing great. Look at their RPI and SOS and tell me they are overrated (that goes the same for the other B12 teams). They have beaten some great teams this yr and lost to West Virginia on neutral court because of their one weakness which is free throws. They have grit and they get the job done. Baylor is LOADED with talent but sometimes underachieves, and i say that because with the several NBA talent players they should be winning more games by double digits. They stand a real chance at an elite 8 appearance if not final four. And missouri is also a great team, very inconsistent on the road but there was a reason they had a 32 game home win streak before my aggies beat them. They press like crazy and make good teams turn the ball over. They should beat clemson but it will be a good one.
Overall I pull for all B12 teams but Im optimistic for several teams this year. My aggies have a tough opening game with UState shooting the ball very well this year but A&M is the top defensive team in the B12 so they should be able to handle the other aggies fairly easily. Then I assume they will have sienna which would be a good game but should allow them to advance to Sweet 16 and they will have Duke in Houston which is very aggie friendly so its basically a home game... Who Knows??
Baylor will make Sweet 16 and stands a good chance against Villanova so we might see A&M baylor in the Elite 8... Kansas should win the Midwest and KState will have its hands full with Cuse but it very easily could be 4 big 12 teams in the sweet 16??? That doesnt seem very weak to me even with the tournament being one of the weakest in recent memory.

Also Kentucky will beat WVU, I wish they wouldnt because I hate Callipari but too much talent... WVU has some players but not at the level of Wall and Co. They are a team that plays to the competition and didnt blow out many SEC teams but they do win the close ones so it should still be a good game!!

Who else's bracket took a nose dive yesterday though with OHIO and Murray State and Old Dominion winning? I have several upsets picked but 6 double digit teams won yesterday, who predicts that???

Problem #1: Rick Barnes is a bad offensive coach. His teams have never done anything but run a set with 1 or 2 screens off the ball, then stand.

Problem #2: They don't have a basketball player on the floor except Avery Bradley and he just wasn't able to take over games. Most of the time Texas put 4 athletes on the floor and a non-threat point guard. That equals great defense, but when you can't score, it doesn't matter how good you are defensively. (by basketball player, I mean someone who can defend, dribble, score, shoot free throws, create his own shot, AND most importantly, someone who can score when a basket is needed.)

Problem #3: Barnes recruits on potential, and recruits as if his team were a football team. He recruits by position. No one on the team could play more than 1 position well. He had ballhandlers who couldn't shoot. (Balbay and Mason) Shooters who couldn't handle the ball (James and Hamilton) Scorers who couldn't defend (Hamilton and Brown) Post players who couldn't rebound (Pittman) Post players who couldn't score (Gary Johnson and Pittman) Wing players who couldn't rebound or handle the ball (Hamilton and Brown) No one to create their own shot.

Problem 4: No one could make free throws, Brown shot a high % but missed lots of big free throws in big games. This is a prime example of what happens when you recruit athletes and not basketball players. No fundamentals = low free throw % and low basketball IQ, both non-attributes this team did well.

Problem 5: He lost the team by having zero team chemistry, no 5 players ever started the consecutive games in conference. They quit on him defensively when Balbay went down. He tried to prove points to Hamilton and Brown by benching them, and talking about them to the press. I've been on college teams with bad apples, you can't bench a kid because he won't listen, won't play defense, or has undisclosed selfishness and team violations, and then all of sudden start him the next game or play him when it's obvious he needs to be on the court IE Hamilton and Brown....You lose the respect of the other players on the team who are playing hard for you and the program.

This was my least favorite Longhorn team of all-time in any sport. I didn't pick them to beat WF, so my bracket is still good. Glad this painful team was put out of their misery. Rick, go recruit some BASKETBALL players like the ones at Kansas, Duke, West Virginia, Kentucky, hell, even aTm and Baylor have BASKETBALL players. C'mon Big 12.

tamu_bspeck, did you play at a&m? I played at St. Mary's University, it was a DII school but we played a few D1 schools and we made our D2 tourney 3 of 4 years.

No i didnt play ball at A&M, I too wouldve been playing DII ball at Tarleton State but got meningitis and west nile while playing in Junior Nationals in Ohio and darn near didnt survive that one while losing over 50 lbs. but with meningitis you arent allowed physical activity for 1 year after so I basically gave up and had an opportunity at MCC in Waco also when their coach asked me to stay and play but at that point it was more about making a living. I do wish I would have stayed with it but I didnt. I still love to get out there and play, we should have a TBH tourney!!!!
