So I got the phone call from the taxidermist about 2 weeks ago saying my elk mount was complete. I was finally able to get out there today to pick it up and was greeted by the lady at the front. The first thing out of her mouth was, "We have a small problem" which was like somebody punched me in the gut. I immediately start pondering possibilities...cape was ruined...mount fell off the wall and broke...it was stolen/lost...etc etc. She walked me back to the showroom and showed me the mount and explained the problem.
When I dropped it off I requested a WALL PEDESTAL MOUNT with a hard right turn to show off the double main beam. They supposedly have to custom build the base as no wall pedestal mount is commercially available from taxidermy supply houses.
When I viewed the mount on the wall in the showroom it was a STANDARD SHOULDER MOUNT with the hard right turn which is approx. $200 cheaper. She explained that they had received 8 or 9 elk heads all at the same time in Septemeber and received the hides back from tanning at the same time and must have rushed the mount and made the error. She said if I was unhappy with the mount they would remount it at their expense the way I requested and should have it finished in about another month. The mount looked great but wasn't what I had originally requested.

I asked them to remount it the way I had asked but with only a 45 degree head turn instead of the hard 90 degree. I have used the same taxidermist for over 20 years and have a wall full of gorgeous mounts that he has done in the past so I know he will have it redone correctly but it was still a little frustrating.
I will also not mention the taxidermists name so don't even ask...I want to give him the opportunity to fix it and have faith that it will be nothing short of perfection upon its return. I was hesitant to even post the pictures but wanted to get opinions on what others would do in this case.
