    What is T shot?

I love upland bird hunting and since I live in east Texas there is little opportunity for it. So I have decided to give duck hunting a try and have been looking at different choke tubes and types of shot. My question is, what the heck is T shot and what is a good shot size and choke combo for your avg duck. If it help I will be hunting a 27 acre private lake with a possibility for long shots over open water.

Also had anyone sent steel shot down a chrome lined barrel and if so does it damage the chrome lining?

T shot is very large. It is used for goose and crane hunting. I personally like 3 inch #2s for duck hunting. I shoot a full choke for open water.

This link will give you an idea about the shot sizes:

Also, I am 99% sure the shot will not hurt the chrome barrel.

T Shot in my opinion is more of a goose load. I love it though! For a duck load 2, 3, and 4 shot is probably the most popular. Not sure about the chrome lining in your barrel.

T is for geese and crane candidly it's a bit large

          T
          BBB
          BB
          1
          2

there may be some in between

with duck I'd shoot #2 in steel, #4/5 in a hevishot type of round Modified choke is as tight as I'd go and in fact 95% of the time my gun has an IC in it.

I dont like T shot, I have no problem killing any birds "within range" with BB shot.

I hunt a big private lake as well. I shoot 3 1/2" #4 steel with a mod choke! It drops em dead on passing shots, but doesn't tear them up either on the close, in your face shots either!

3 inch #3's, if that one kill em I probally shouldn't be shooting at em

The best all around for me has been 3" #3's out of a 28" barrel with a Modified choke. If 3's aren't available I'll shoot #2's and #4's.

If I'm pond jumping the first shot is a #4 followed up with 2 #2's for when the birds have jumped and are flying away.

Early in the season (including Teal season) #4's

Late season when the birds are call/decoy shy I use only #2's

As far as your question stated above I think you have your answer for "T" shot. As far as the chrome lining inside your barrel It shouldn't be effected being as that the shot stays within the shot cup or the wadding until it exits the barrel. For you hunting this private lake with the possibility of long shots, with the assumption that you can shoot 3" shells out of your scattergun, I'd go with 3" #2's with either a Modified choke or a Full choke. That is IF your gun/choke is rated for shooting steel shot out of a Full choke. Your choke tube will say if it's rated for steel.

                    Best of luck to ya!

What he said. Some people like 4's, but I don't. Give me 3" 3's and I will be happy. Nothing bigger than BB's for geese and cranes. Anything bigger and you are hoping for 1 lucky BB. I use either use a Skeet for teal hunting and little ponds for ducks and either IC or LM on bigger water for ducks. M for geese.

T shot is too big for anything IMO.
