    Need Help...Elk Mount...lets see pics.

I shot a 320 inch 5 by 5 and getting it mounted, problem is we only have 8 ft ceilings. If I put it on wall it will have tpo be a full sneak which I am cool with but still will have to be mounted 3 foot off the floor. I was wondering about a pedistal base mount..has anyone else had this issue. lets see your elk mount pics

A sneak mount is my favorite, but in a room with an 8 ft ceiling, that thing is gonna stick out there.

    Congrats on the elk.

Got a funny story to share. The other day I told my wife that somehow next year Im going to shoot an elk. Most of the time she simply looks at me and nods her head and placates my dreams. Something must have clicked in her mind this time cause she came right back at me with " Do you know how much an elk hunt is going to cost" The Lord was with me and gave me a word of knowledge immediately: I said " A lot less than wood floors'. She turned and walked out of the study and came back in less than thirty seconds with "That thing will not fit in your study unless you mount it at eye level". Sadly enough she is probably right and we have ten foot ceilings. But dont tell her I said she,s right!

Here's my dad's elk that I mounted, quickly hung under an 8' ceiling when I was showing him what it looked like. Just to give you an idea, to the right of the pic is a 7' door. He stood @ 5' out from the wall and @ 4' from tip off blade to bottom of brisket.

My wife would kill me, but, in my book that is do-able

I was thinking maybe mounting him on some sort of pedistal that is around 3-4 ft tall and have him in an upright turn position. man I dont know..lol

If you want to mount the bull closer to the ceiling, mount it either with a severe right or left turn bugling. I have about the same in a 6x6 mounted and it really lays the elk's head and horns back along it's back.

like this one. this one is a friend of mines. had to add 2 by 8 to back of it because the rack was so wide it touched the wall before the back of mount. even with wood there was about 1/2inch between antlers and wall.

A floor pedestal will fit that size elk, in an 8 foot ceiling.
This elk is about that size, and the pedestal is 24" tall, for reference.

The Elk will work just fine on a base, I have a good friend of mine that is a firefighter in Coppell and does does taxidermy work on the side. He has a contract with US Outfitters and does a lot of their work. He does 60 plus elk each year just for them and I have seen several on bases. He does great work and who knows he may give you the firefighter discount! Let me know and I can put you in touch.

follow Kevin's advice ... go with a pedastool mount

here are just a few examples
