    FYI Sent a email to TPWD with question this was their reply;

    Yes, once they are released, they become part of the state quail population.
    The survival rate on pen-reared birds once released is less than 1% due to starvation, dehydration and by depredation by both aerial and ground predators.

      How would you determine if the quail was pen raised or wild?? Ask for their ID ??
      Get a license and be safe.

        I believe pen raised bird hunts can extend beyond the regular season. Don't quote me on that. I may have misunderstood what was told to me

          In Oklahoma you do not need a license for hogs, in Texas you better have a license if you are catching lighting bugs brother

              Spud I ask your question and wether or not a upland game bird tag was required the following was reply from TPWD,

              No, you may only hunt pen-raised/release quail during the open statewide quail season only.

              Quail Season Hunt Date Key:
              The Saturday closest to September 28 to the last Sunday in February.

              Yes, you do require an Upland Game Bird Stamp Endorsement to hunt any upland game birds in Texas along with a valid hunting license and Hunter Education Certification (if born on or after Sept. 2, 1971).

                Easter Eggs are the only thing in Texas that you can hunt without a HL. You can hunt pen birds after season, and you can tell the difference because to possess more than 12 you must have a permit to raise them.
                As for hogs and yotes, the land owner or a land manager can shoot them without a HL IF they are destroying property. The animals must be left alone (no processing, tanning, selling fur). If you are sitting in a tree over bait with a bow.......you are hunting them and MUST have a HL.
